His music isn’t just technically sound but capable of arousing emotion at such depths that it’s hard not to shed tears when listening to one of his full concert recordings. I can’t begin to imagine how much broader his reach would’ve been with the improved recording quality we have today 🙏

I have not listened to a music better than this. Thank you, Lalitharam. His voice, he allowing Sri Kazhugumalai kanaasamy when the raga alapana reaches its crescendo, his singing reaching the anumantra sthayi in a natural way - no words to express the beauty.
The tandem singing of Sri Somu and Sri Kandasamy reminds me of  similar moments with the great MLV and Smt Charumathi Ramachandran doing the pallavi neravu.

Amazing

First heard him in 1977 and have been addicted since then. Mesmerizing to say the least.

Prostrastions to the legend

What a Beautiful Elaborated  ,this generation got blessed, Thanks for sharing

There are many such instances, where Somu asked his sishyas to sing with him during the alapanai and later he joins with them to exchange and make it grand for both - sishya n audience. Very few gurus in this field did this, so frequently n elaborately. May be 2 - Somu n MLV. Others did this, probably, occasionally.

Excellent and unparaleled comments. Somu Mama deserve even much more encomiums..all comments are worthy of them. Violin is a very good match. It's M C Chandrasekaran sir. He is also one of the genius musicians, have heard him singing with the violin playing.

Magnificent
Filled with emotions

As somebody commented elsewhere, it is most unfortunate that he was not recognised by those who to have done it, revealing the fact that they don't have adequate knowledge of what Somu Mama's quality of music was. Well, past is past..atleast hereafter, let's hope that such rare gems coming in the pipeline are not discarded.
