Was Paul Atreides truly the hero of Dune?

This video tells the entire story of Paul Atreides, from his childhood in Caladan to his arrival on Arrakis, his transformation into Muad'Dib among the Fremen, the Lisan al-Gaib prophecy, the Bene Gesserit's Missionaria Protectiva plan, his war with the Harkonnen, his overthrow of Emperor Shaddam IV, and the Fremen jihad during the Dune Messiah era.

Why did Paul continue to be Muad'Dib even though he foresaw future carnage? Why did he exploit the Fremen's religious faith in him? And how did 61 billion people die in the wars waged in his name?

What Frank Herbert tells through Paul Atreides is not a simple tale of heroism. Dune is a much darker warning about charismatic leaders, savior myths, and people handing over responsibility to someone else.
