I have an RCD855 running through an RA01 and a set of four Paradigm speakers. The 855 died on me a few years ago. Had it 'fixed' by the authorized Rotel repair shop. Got it home and it broke on the first play. Took it back, they 'fixed ' it again and it worked three times before it broke again. I had it repaired by an indie shop who was thrilled to see it, said it was a pleasure to work on and he said it's very much a player worth getting fixed and keeping. 'they don't make them like this anymore' he said. Love love love the sound.
Today I used a rotel rcd 855 cd player that had been sitting unused for a long . I was happily surprised at how very fast it loaded the cd tracks when the cd was put in the cd tray and of course it build quality that is seldom found today and I think I bought fom what you call a thrift store
I have an 855 that my wife's best friend left with us when she moved to New Zealand. It's the best sounding player of the 6 we have in the house even though one of the buttons has fallen off and it looks like crap.
Bought one for a bargain a few years back.Use it as a transport with a Meridian 263 Delta Sigma Dac and Rotel power/preamp.Still sounds fantastic!Better than a Maranrz cd 5005 which I bought about 3 years back.
I bought a 950 rcd a few weeks ago and I have problems with the rca coaxial output. It does not recognize my dac nuprime 9h. The dac works well with the audioquest coaxial cable in a dvd player. I'm going to have to take it to repair. The cheap dvd player with the dac nuprime akm 4490 is highly superior to the rotel dac tda 1305.
