I'm 17 and a huge history buff. Your videos have taken me to sites that i can't go to yet. Can't wait to grab a snack and watch the new tour! 🥰

As someone studying archaeology and museum curation I think that the cleaning of the grime from the walls, while a massive change, was in some ways for the better! The original architects definitely did not intend for the cathedral to be that dark, and besides, the stonework and masonry is far easier to appreciate now that it's clean. When you restore an old home most people would not want to leave layers and layers of old wallpaper glued onto the walls, or tiling over the wooden floorboards. I think the cathedral is the same -- while the grime is definitely part of its history, is it worth more than the artistic visions of the countless people who worked on its creation?

Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I, too, cried when I saw the fire destroying this architectural and artistic marvel. As a historian and as a human being, knowing what Notre Dame represented and what it contained. The one good thing to come out of this disaster is how all the "lost" artisan skills were highlighted and put to wonderful use by those who are trying to keep those skills alive. In our technological age, sometimes there's little respect for artisans and, consequently, they aren't able to live on what they make. It's a horrible circle-jerk for dying skills. I love that the French government injected a huge amount of money into those crafts, keeping them alive for at least another generation.

I was home in Germany, had a Day off trom Work as my mother called me that Notre Dame is Burning. I couldn’t believe it, before I watched the news myself and I was in shock. What totally Tragic for me was, this Cathedral means so much to me because I am Obsessed with the Hunchback of Notre Dame and I had planned a Visit to Paris a Month later. I was there and saw her in ruins. It broke my heart.

Thank you so much for this! I was in Paris in 2022, and we had to be content with standing in front of Shakespeare & Co. and looking up at the church. It's incredible that so much of the artwork and furnishings survived. I am not a religious person at all, and I don't believe in divine providence or whatever, but I love medieval cathedrals. They are such beautiful, amazing buildings.

St Paul’s in London cleaned the internal grime some year ago. The Sistine Chapel frescos were cleaned some years ago. In my opinion both projects enhanced the interior. I would say the same thing about getting the grime of the interior of Notre Dame. ❤
Thank you far a wonderful video.

I did not cry when I saw the fire BUT I was horrified. The lightness of the inside of the cathedral looks nice. Thank-you for a wonderful tour - it's such a majestic place, n'est-ce pas? So much history explained by you. I had watched previous videos done by you and so I remembered some details such as St Denis walking with his head. The artisans are wonderfully talented and revered in France UNLIKE here in Quebec. I believe there are schools in France for ancient techniques. Vive La France and its beautiful art works. Have a nice day. 🙂

I am a big fan and am going to Paris in a couple of weeks for the first time. Thank for this. I’ll be searching other sites we plan to see in hopes of getting a great education before the trip.

Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I went to Paris in 2017 for our 5th anniversary. He had never visited a cathedral before, and Notre Dame was a perfect intro. We both cried when the fire happened. It looks so amazing now, all those paintings weren't very well showcased when we visited and I love the way the restoration has highlighted them. Yeah, no way were there dapples of sunlight when we were there, either. I actually love how bright and open it looks. It's like it must have been back when it was first constructed. thanks again for this! Loved it!

One of, or rather the best and most comprehensive, documentaries on the history of Notre Dame de Paris, its successive misfortunes, its rebirths, its treasure, its turbulent history, and its magnificent and exceptional architecture. Thank you for this ode to the craftsmanship of my country, its culture, and its artisans and craftsmen.
