In the aftermath of the Industrial Revolution and major Italian economic crises, millions of Italians left their villages to seek work in France. Among them was Augusto, who arrived in Paris as a child in 1949. In the working-class neighborhoods of the capital, families from Emilia-Romagna and the Apennines recreated a close-knit community, amidst Italian cafés, accordion music, and everyday solidarity.

Through his story and those of historians and witnesses, this episode sheds light on a crucial chapter in European migration history. Italian immigration, numbering in the millions, contributed to rebuilding France and shaping its cultural and social identity.
