Now for a word from your Starwind:
Thank you everyone who came to the premiere and to those who contributed to the project, hopefully the research will be useful to those on the hunt for these tapes.
If you have any variations of the tapes please do say and their codes, as it will be very insightful to our research.
Tune in for Part 2 where we will look at the narrations themselves and see what is so different.
Thank you!

Amazing video, Nick!

Love that you drew me in your style, that’s hilarious 🤣

And yeah, my copy is a complete mystery to me, it doesn’t add up

As someone who used to abuse the Thomas wiki as a 10 year old, I didn’t even know about this random lore

Holy hell lol

Oh hell yes, this is the sort of thing I live for.

It's pretty possible that some of these early recordings were kind of similar to his RWS audiobook narrations which is what inspired season 3's early productions before they were altered

Very interesting! Never knew there was so much history with the original season 3 VHS tapes in the UK. Can’t wait for part 2 ☺️

10:30 Must be a scalper then.

Awsome video.

Slight corection at 2:31 Michael Angelis passed the torch on to Mark Monaghan. Michael Brandon was the US narrator alongside Michael Angelis during Series 7-16. Mark Monaghan would narrate both dubs after being hired.

This was a fun watch, always had a nostalgic fondness for Trust Thomas' early narration! I still have my childhood tape and going by the code on it, you're fairly close to owning one of the first made for the second narration. I don't think YouTube is letting me include the code in comments but I'll get a photo of it to share on my Bluesky.

It’s always a good day when you upload a video. Keep up the good work!

Funny thing, I was simply given  the Trust Thomas VHS with the early narration among a batch of other old Thomas VHS tapes (two of which were PickWick S2 Thomas Tapes) in 2004 ^^; I've yet to to own a copy of Early Time for trouble VHS, but with that info given about the tape label, I should be able to get one myself now and finally complete the S3 VHS trio set. ^^

The Starwind Zone is back 🥳❤

Nick is back hooray!

Thanks for making this, Nick. I have an original narration Trust Thomas video, which I got for my 7th birthday. The front of the cassette reads THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE - THE NEW ADVENTURES but it doesn't have a barcode sticker on the cassette itself. It doesn't have the "Television Stories" credit on the back and it doesn't have the "As Seen on ITV" graphic on the front.

Amazing video!

Seems to be quite a minefield when it comes to variants of the first two series 3 tapes. I had the Trust Thomas tape when I was a kid. It had the later narrations, but the tape itself had an early-style sticker; the one that simply said "Thomas the Tank Engine New Adventures". And, to further confuse everyone, there seems to a variant of the Time of Trouble tape out there which features the later narration with the title card from the version with the early narration. That particular variant was on Dailymotion but appears to have been removed recently. I'd hazard a guess that both of these variants I've mentioned are the 1992 re-releases. The tapes were reissued yet again in 1993 with the promo added at the beginning and those 1993 variants seem to be the ones most commonly found on the second-hand market. Certainly makes things interesting for collectors.

I had the early version of Trust Thomas. It and my other S1 and 3 tapes had long lost their covers so when i took all my tapes to a charity shop, after getting the series 1-11 DVD set, they wouldn't take the sleeveless tapes so i unceremoniously dumped them in the nearest bin.
Wish i'd kept my tapes as they had sentimental value

I've listened to both narrations in the past, and I have to say the second is much better. I do wonder if he got a grilling after doing the first pass, or if there simply wasn't enough time to get the narrations right during production. The difference was like night and day.
Personally, I think the best narration Michael Angelis did throughout his 20 years on the series would have to be Henry's Forest. It was truly a next-level performance, even for a children's narrator. It was so good that I even made a stop-motion animation of it in the style of a Jackanory episode.
