We really need to start thinking about what kind of a world we want to leave behind to Keith Richards.

They played for me personally in Salt Lake City on 23 July 1966. The entire audience of surfer-types left the venue in some kind of protest and left me alone on a 1950's style dance floor in my Beatle jacket with the Stones a few inches away on stage. They did their full show as if the place was packed. Fabulous!!!!

The earliest recorded image of Keith Richards is on the Bayeux tapestry. He is portrayed as an adolescent troubadour.

Dominic and Tom, thank you for these podcasts. I live in the US and get so depressed with the news - you guys brighten my day. Thank you sincerely for all you are doing.

Even Keef acknowledged the influence their early tour supporting Little Richard had on their image and stage presence. Before everyone there was Little Richard.

Hold on guys!   Ian Stewart was a permanent member of the Stones up until he died. He plays on all of their albums up until that point and played piano on stage with them on every tour.  He just wasn't featured in publicity pics.  That was the agreement.  He contributed to songwriting/recording and arrangements of songs. He made sure Stones tours followed golf courses around the world.  He loved golf.  He happened to be a brilliant musician that didn't have the looks but was always a member of the band.

I remember Mr. Stuart, my middle school history teacher, interrupted his lecture on the factors leading to the American Revolutionary War to make the point that the British colonial model involved processing raw materials from their colonies into finished goods which they sold back to the colonies at considerable profit. "And they're still at it. Witness the Beatles and the Rolling Stones...."

So nice to hear about people not killing each other. More of this kind of history, please!

Congratulations on winning the Webby Award, voted for you and will do again 100 times! Well done the two of you! 🎉❤

I know a bloke who was at the LSE with Michael Jagger as he was then and he told this guy that he was quitting to sing in a group. The guy said "That is something you will regret, at least stay and get your degree". Jagger didn't take his advice.
Later in his life this LSE student was asked if he would like to join a start up with a couple of guys who were putting DIY goods into abandoned cinemas. He thought it was a naff concept so he declined the third share in what became B&Q.

Loved your Beatles stuff with Conan O'Brien and this one is even better..  Like the Cultural/Economic context

A nurse friend of mine was working at Cottonwood hospital in Salt Lake city when the Stones came to town in 1999. She said so many female nurses called in sick that the admins had to rely on the expensive temp-nurse registry to staff their wards while the Stones were there.

Lonnie Donegan is looking down and saying " And what was I....choppd liver?

Blame it on the stones; blame it on the stones
You'll feel so much better, knowing you don't stand alone
Join the accusation; save the bleeding nation
Get it off your shoulders; blame it on the stones

I've always heard it from Keith, that Mick
was the one holding the stack of records that he ordered from Chicago's Chess Records. Keith specifically mentions Chuck Berry's album rocking at the hops,
that Mick has. "Hey good to see ya man, but where did you get the records?"

Ian Stewart didn't just drive them around, he played piano and organ on many of their recordings. He really was the 6th member.

That whole obsession with hair everyone had feels like some sort of countrywide insanity

Your podcast made me laugh a lot. I am 67 and grew up a few miles from where Richards had his house at West Wittering in Sussex. I never understood why the Stones were hated by my parents' generation. They hated most of the music I played. My teenage friends and I considered the Stones cooler than the Beatles. Their records were played regularly at parties.

I never heard the story about the kids throwing pastries at them, that is precious.

Jones was apparently a big fan of Cannonball Adderly. I believe it was Mick who had the two albums Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry on the Dartford platform.
