Smorgasbord is also from a Swedish word that translates to "Sandwich table".

My theory about Donald Duck is that when it started we didn't have a lot of cartoons on Swedish TV, so it was something for the kids to watch when the grownups were busy with Christmas lunch, and then it became a tradition.

There are so many inventions not mentioned, among them the 3 point seat belt that the creator also refused to patent since he thought it was a thing that should keep people safe everywhere and not only in a few places and to those who could afford it!

Ever wondered why the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Norway while all the other prizes are handed out in Sweden?
It actually dates back to 1895 when Alfred Nobel wrote his will. At the time, Sweden and Norway were still in a union,
and Nobel believed Norway was much better suited for the task because it lacked Sweden’s aggressive, militaristic history and had a parliament deeply committed to international peace.Ironically,
just ten years later in 1905, Norway broke free from the union.
Relations got incredibly tense, and both countries actually mobilized their armies.
It was a hair's breadth away from a bloody civil war, but thanks to intense diplomatic negotiations in Karlstad,
Sweden accepted Norway’s independence peacefully. This peaceful breakup actually laid the foundation for the deep "brotherhood" the two nations share today.
Choosing peace over a bloody war created a unique bond of mutual respect. This bond was cemented even further during WWII when Sweden took in over 50,000 Norwegian refugees fleeing Nazi occupation.
Today, Swedes and Norwegians share an almost unbreakable connection.
Beyond nearly identical languages and a shared cultural model, they have evolved from bitter union-partners into fiercely loyal neighbors who love to roast each other in sports, but always have each other's backs when it counts.🙃😊😎

Here in Finland we often call for example car engine cam- and crankshaft seals, or other revolving axle seal a "stefa" which was originally Swedish brand.

this is very very old so the politic part  i not current

The Disney show at 3:00 pm is a tradition that was very much excitement because we did not see cartoon that much back in the day. And also a big fact is that we celebrate Christmas on the 24th so often Santa arrived sometimes after Disney so you knew that also.

LOL never crossed my mind that the colors of Donald's jacket matches the Swedish flag.

There is NO worchestershire sauce in Swedish meatballs! Its an ordinary brown sauce!

Old video, Sweden today has the highest wealth inequality of any European country which is in part a result of Sweden removing, wealth tax, property tax (only a nominal fee), inheritance tax and having a moderate capital gains and corporate tax.

There is twice as many dollar billionaires per 100,000 people in Sweden than the US and almost as many dollar millionaires per capita despite comparatively high income taxes but not even close to the high number shown in the video for teh average Swede

Its firmly a capitalist market economy with checks and balances supporting a strong social (not socialist) agenda

Yeah, I think in general we are more interested in underdogs than the hero that saves the day regarding the Donald Duck phenomenon. But Donald Duck was always the most popular comic book so I guess it also became a generational thing where Donald Duck was just more well-known than Mickey Mouse.

Btw Finland is NOT included in Scandinavia, only the trinity Sweden, Norway and Denmark. This is due to Finland is not a part of the Scandinavian peninsula and the many cultural and linguistical differences to the other three countries...It is a Nordic country though, where Iceland is also inculded.
It can be abit confusing but it is like the Great Britain and United Kingdom, where Northen Ireland is excluded in Great Britain but when saying United Kingdom you include Northen Ireland...

We are probably the most low key people in the world. 😂

Donald Duck is much more popular in Finland too, it must be because he is always in money troubles and has many problems and gets annoyed, it is just more fun than Mickey Mouse.

Many of Sweden's largest global corporations most people know nothing about because their customers are not the common public.
ABB, Sandvik, Alfa Laval, Atlas Copco etc comes to mind.
Ericssons main product was always the infrastructure itself and not the phones.
They abandoned the phone market completely in 2012.
However many people are unknowingly using their products on a daily basis because they are connected to their mobile infrastructure/equipment.

The log cabins in north america are sealed with clay.
This is not the case with the original cabins in Scandinavia and Finland.

Here the logs are shaped to fit the log beneth as perfectly as possible.
Then a layer of moss is put on the log below before the new log it put in place on top.
That should make a perfect seal.
Not clay is needed.

You will never see the clay seal on any log cabin here is Scandinavia or Finland.

Everyone knows that Christmas is celebrated in memory of Donalde Duck and he's friends😄

Now thyey have started a new tradition with Astrid Lindgren stories.

Tetra Pak had a large factory 30 km from me - But Norrmejerier chose to start packaging their products in a completely useless package (Tetra Brick) , so the factory in Bjurholm had to be closed down. There was talk that Norrmejerier had been bribed to choose a different package than Tetra Pak - But now Tetra Pak is the package that seems to be becoming the standard - Tetra brick became the replacement for Tetra pak - And Tetra brick was a gift from hell

Imagine being the broker for the "I want to buy your trash deal". Getting your new job, monday starts and you have to call around to other countries and say you want to buy their trash and somehow this is profitable 😅

If you look t comics one of the first that children in Sweden are likely to read is the magazine Kalle Anka, and that's the Swedish name for Donald Duck. Now in that magazine there are occasionally Mickey Mouse stories, but there's no magazine exclusively about Mickey. Growing up I remember reading the magazine and though Mickey Mouse was fun, it was the duck that was the main star.  I once got a almost complete collection of the magazine with the first issue being number three 1948. A fun thing is that the collection had been almost untouched, but my father thought it was a good ide sort them by year and issue. Then he stacked them one year at a time, drilled holes near the back and bound them together with some cheap string. As a kid that was ideal, but when I got older and realized what the collection would have been worth if it had been preserved in it's plastic sleeves I couldn't help but tell dad. He was shocked. He just couldn't understand why anyone would be prepared to pay serious money for comics that was over 50 year old. In a way it was lucky that the collection didn't include the first and second magazines. If it had been entirely complete and untouched collection would have been worth a lot. My father got the collection as the one who had collected everything died, and his remaining family thought it was trash...

I don't know, if these were misses or if they are footnotes, but there are scholars, who say it was the Finns, who introduced log cabin to America. At one point, half of the settlers in New Sweden were Finns, largely penal colonists. Keeping in mind that Finland was part of Sweden at the time. Some of the practices those Finns used in settling regions in America were then adopted by settlers of other nationalities. A Swedish-Finnish explorer and botanist Pehr Kalm was one of the most important apostles of Carl Linnaeus. He's E.g. credited with the first description of Niagara Falls written by a trained scientist. Video: "Townsends Winters in Colonial America". The Nobel family lived and were influential in Russia and had Finns working for them. A Finnish-born movie director Mauritz Stiller introduced Greta Garbo to Hollywood. After Sweden had lost Finland to the Russian Empire and Finland had gained independence from it, Finland had to face the Russian/Soviet aggression. During the WW2, some US officials had a plan to evacuate Finns to Alaska to settle what was planned to be New Finland. Though some Finns had already been influential there when both Finland and Alaska were part of the Russian Empire. Some of them having been key figures in the Alaska trade to the US. Finnish architect and designer couple The Aaltos were key figures of Scandinavian modernism already in the 1930s and influential also in the US. They founded their company Artek before there was IKEA. Those waterways the Vikings used were ancient trade routes and were in Finno-Uralic tribes' control before the Vikings found their way/were led there. In regards, Russia is said to derive from a Finnish word. First modern smart phone was developed by a Finnish company MyOrigo. Video: "Myorigo MyDevice prototype, the first modern smartphone in the world". According to Don Rosa, Donald Duck's popularity in Finland is unmatched. Noting that he has illustrated a duck story based on Finland's national epic Kalevala.
