One of the best and most deserving Oscar wins for Best Actress. I wish Criterion or someone will give the film the Blu-ray treatment.

Sophia Loren shows her acting talent in this film. Tragic story but showed the horrors of war. Film spoiled by so many adverts.

Eine unglaublich beeindruckende Leistung von Sophia Loren, das Grauen des Krieges so eindringlich darzustellen

What a brilliant movie this is. It's one of those that you can appreciate even more on a second viewing when you know how it's all going to end.
A truly stellar performance by the incomparable Sophia Loren is the cherry on top.
Rating: Eleven stars out of ten.

Watching this powerful movie,i only realized several hours afterwards how extremely rare it is for americans to be exposed to a narrative so wholly focused on one woman's experience.

Vittorio De Sica , Federico Fellini, , Icons of Italian Culture. They were the key to the cultural rise of Italy after the human misery and suffering of the Italian community after World War II.
