In an era when women's education and freedom were restricted, Tagore's Binodini stood as an intelligent, empowered, and complex woman. Truly ahead of her time.

I have watched this very many times and I always viewed this with binodhni’s lens but this time I felt for Aasha…how vulnerable she is.

Ravindranath Tagore was a legendary, visionary and highly liberal writer for his time. In 1900s the women character of Tagore were of different shades and characteristics. He showcased the progressive and regressive sides of women so beautifully and literally
Binodini is one such character. Not perfect, but intelligent , rebellious and complex with shrewd and sharp mind. Her jealousy, unfulfilled desires, yearning and longing for love and family after being a widowed at such young age after rejection from Mahen n Bihari drove her into manipulations and using her sensuousness into a weapon.

But she was a vulnerable woman at heart. She paid her ultimate prize as she lost her best friend Asha and the love of her life Bihari although she got her revenge for Mahen.

Ashalata another shade of Tagore's women. Naive, gullible, uneducated, and deeply devoted as a wife. Her world only revolves around her husband. Something for which she also had to pay her prize for being too devoted and too naive. As they say the innocent always pay the price. The straight nails always gets to hammered first.
Thakur's contrasting characters and different shades of women is what makes him so special. Binodini and Ashalata are liked chalk and a cheese. Yet you feel for both the women.

But asha was soo innocent and kind hearted 😢

Main culprit is mohendro. He destroyed life of two girls

Asha Lata she is pure soul i think itna sidha hona bhi zamane khatarnak sabit ho sakta hai

I used to watch it on TV after my school, miss those days❤

Hindi one is good but Bengali one is justtt extraordinary...that matched perfectly with every character and their accent.... more emotional ❤️✨️
