The 4k of 1953 War of the Worlds also has the Bluray of When Worlds Collide, both of them are must watches if you like 50s Sci-Fi.

I should check the original version.

In Top Gun, Tim Robbins plays Merlin, who is Maverick's RIO in the final battle.

"Imagine getting to do your first film as kid and working Tom Cruise and Stephen Spielberg". - This is Dakota Fanning. She had already done a dozen or so films and many tv show appearance before this film. She was already a veteran actor. 😀

War of the Worlds is Stephen Spielberg's 9/11 parable. From the traumatic sense of suddenness, only to learn that the Martian attack had been planned for longer than anyone knew, to the panic and Tom Cruise's character covered in ash as if he was someone wandering Ground Zero, this film hits ever note of the zeitgeist that followed Sept. 11, 2001. It's fully in keeping with the film's history. The 1953 film was for the post-Second World War period what the 2005 film was for the aftermath of the attacks.

If you want to see one of the all time sci-fi favorites you need to see "War of the Worlds" from the 50s. It stars the 2 older people who greeted him in Boston! You WILL love it!

Yeah this movie was quite a memorable theater experience. I think you could really see the trauma in people leaving after it was over.

Thank you for another great movie reaction Ames! :)

Wow I've seen this movie at least 20 times and I never noticed the writing on the tripod. Thank you for pointing that out.

The plane crash set is still on the lot at Universal Studios Hollywood, where it was filmed. I just recently saw it (again) on the Studio Tour when I took my nephew there. Pretty cool! That's a real 747 (decommissioned) that was purchased as scrap, cut up, and transported to the Universal lot for about a quarter of a million dollars (plus additional set decoration costs).

Gene berry and Ann Robinson, played the grand parents at the end.

Ray's in-laws are played by the two lead actors from George Pal's War of the Worlds (1953), a true sci-fi classic. While few movies are as viscerally terrifying as Spielberg's remake, the original movie adaptation is pretty terrifying and awesome in its own right.

"The War of the Worlds" was a Halloween episode of the radio series The Mercury Theatre on the Air which was broadcast live at 8 pm ET on October 30, 1938 over the CBS Radio Network. The episode was directed and narrated by Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells' novel The War of the Worlds and is infamous for inciting a panic by convincing some members of the listening audience that a Martian invasion was actually taking place.

The scene of the bodies floating in the river was shot in Naugatuck Connecticut and the ended up losing some of the body dummies. I can’t only imagine someone seeing them floating around the Hudson River in NYC. They probably wouldn’t even be phased.

Great reactions. Loved seeing how invested you were. It made the scenes so much more realistic and interesting. You’re amazing.

They filmed the early parts of the movie (Ray's house, the alien ship rising out of the ground and attacking) only a few towns over from me. I wanted to go watch the production because it's not everyday that Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise film an adaptation of a seminal work of alien science fiction in your backyard. But I had just started college and didn't wanna miss my classes, so I didn't go and now I regret it.

War of the Worlds is one of the movies parodied in Scary Movie 4.

Both stars from the 1953 movie make a cameo at the very end of this movie. They are the two grandparents standing in the doorway of the house before Robbie comes out to hug Ray.
