A presentation at the 25th Science Festival.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by auditory hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking and behavior, social withdrawal, and difficulty expressing emotions. Much less is known about the fact that individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia experience cognitive difficulties, including difficulty focusing attention, remembering new information, and performing mental calculations. In the literature, explanations of the causes of cognitive impairments most often draw on biological concepts. However, recently, reports have emerged indicating that psychological processes may partially explain this phenomenon. Data indicate that cognitive deficits can be attributed to factors such as anxiety during cognitive tasks, weakened motivation to engage in them, and an unstimulating environment.
