I clicked on this video thinking "I wonder what 9 movies will be here before Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close?"

I will tell you EXACTLY why Bohemian Rhapsody got all of the love and nominations it did: because of Brian May and Roger Taylor. They were heavily involved in the films production, were major supporters of Rami Malek’s performance, and were at pretty much every premiere/red carpet event/awards show the film was included in. I think everybody got super star struck by having them around AND felt a strong sense of nostalgia, reflecting back not only on Queen’s music and legacy, but the talent that was Freddie Mercury and what a colossal loss his passing was.
I am a HUGE fan of Queen, they are my favorite band, but even I will say that this movie didn’t deserve a Best Picture nomination.

The fact that they nominated Darkest Hour over I,Tonya still infuriates me to this day😭

So I talked to an Academy voter and those who were disappointed by Green Book winning (myself included) should feel grateful because Bohemian Rhapsody was apparently 2nd place that year. A just ok film won but if it didn’t a straight up BAD film would’ve won.

Now we need the reverse! The greatest best picture nominees of the 2010s that didn’t win.

Jojo Rabbit does not deserve to be on this list!

Russell Crowe singing “Stars” in Les Miserables is one of the most hilarious failures I’ve ever seen. Russell Crowe can actually sing but for that song you need a big booming voice and he just doesn’t

I'm behind you on Hereditary, Brian! The fact that it was snubbed so horribly at the Oscars is unforgivable. As a life long die hard horror fan; I've never seen anything like Toni Collette's performance in that movie. For the majority of it, you feel so much grief and terror FOR her! Then, in the last act, you're terrified OF her!!!

Viola Davis should have taken the Oscar for Doubt. That one scene is incredible!

Uncut Gems is so fantastic how did that not get any nominations seriously

Bohemian Rhapsody had a ton of buzz because it was about Queen. That's it. No hate towards Queen, they're one of my favorite bands ever and Mercury's tied for my favorite singer of all time with Aretha Franklin, but, God, this movie was so carried by their name being attached to it.

Totally agree that “Drive” and “Prisoners” and “The Florida Project” should’ve gotten more Oscar attention and “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” were not worthy of any attention. Especially BR. What a hollow, poorly edited, poorly executed movie with multiple factual errors included for the sake of “drama”. And I love Rami but it wasn’t an Oscar worthy performance. But, as this video proves, the Oscars love it when you play a real person, play a dying person, put on a fat suit/lose weight or wear a lot of makeup/wigs. Ugh.

My last movie before COVID was Rise of Skywalker. Definitely would have prefered it being JoJo Rabbit

I never understood why Sandra Bullock won by Blind Side. She doesn't change her expression throughout.

I still can't believe that Bohemian Rhapsody won best editing

For me, fences is not a visual movie. The lack of visual, of a different life perspective, those resonate with the characters' stories. I also think that the core of the movie is how locked up Viola's character feels.
Now Jojo Rabbit is amazing, no way it is part of this list.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is truly one of the most baffling nominations for Best Picture ever. It's not as glaringly awful as a film like Crash or The Blind Side, but the sheer nomination of it is a mystery.

2:09 Exactly! Timothée Chalamet received a BAFTA, a Critics' Choice, a Golden Globe and a SAG nomination for this performance, but he missed out on an Oscar nomination???

10:40 : I love how you're putting two Quebec directors up against each other here (Vallée and Villeneuve). Makes me proud of our french-Canadian industry!

You're absolutely right with American Hustle, it only got nominated because of the names David O Russell and the actors. I wonder if academy members have actually seen it or just saw some pictures and went "yes, looks great, nominate it".
