Today, Ngr generates circa 15MW and distributes under 5. The issue is TRANSMISSION from the Gencos to the Discos. The Transmission is the only part of the value chain that remains in Government hands (go figure!!) and it is currently headed by a clueless leadership and lack of investment from same Government on 60 year old infrastructure. To a lesser extent, there is zero demand from the regulator on performance targets with attendant consequences on the Discos. They must be forced to invest in their dilapidated transformer assets or face sanctions including cancellation of their licenses. Everyone who is conversant with the sector knows this as does Government - why there is no political will to do this is the same reason why Governments in Nigeria fail - a combination of incompetence and corruption.
