Renowned American guitar media outlet Guitar World asked Nene Royal, "If you had one hour and could choose one guitarist in the world to teach you, who would you choose?" Her answer was a guitarist she admires for both his playing style and unique sound. The timing is particularly interesting because in a few days, Nene is scheduled to perform in Singapore as an opening act for Avenged Sevenfold.
The interview also revealed many other details, including the behind-the-scenes selection and arrangement of songs for her America's Got Talent performance, advice from Howie Mandel, the story of a guitar gifted to her by a Danish fan, her self-taught guitar learning from YouTube, and why she chose Hotel California as a practice piece to challenge herself.
When Guitar World asked about the songs she's currently writing herself, Nene also mentioned her influences from Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, The Warning, and Linkin Park, emphasizing the most important thing on her musical journey: no matter what direction future guides she receives, she must ultimately remain true to herself.
Before the next two days of excitement — October 13th, Nene is scheduled to open for Avenged Sevenfold at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and October 14th, she's returning to Thailand to perform at the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 reception at Government House, in front of over 400 guests.
A single question from an American guitar media outlet revealed more about Nene's thought process and musical journey than we initially thought.
