On November 14, 2019, she told her sister she could no longer tolerate his control and decided to leave the apartment. She lost contact with him that night and missed her dentist appointment the following day. He tried to suggest she'd gone to meet another man, but her parents noticed his agitation and the inconsistencies in his story.
Tess Ritchie, 22, had moved to Toronto, Canada, dreaming of becoming a flight attendant. She went out one night with an old friend and texted her family that she'd arrived safely. By morning, her phone was off. When the police couldn't find her, her family searched for her themselves until a family friend found her on an outside staircase, about 20 yards from where she'd last been seen.
