Aikman made plays and made the clutch throws when he needed to but absolutely no way in hell do Cowboys win those three Super Bowls without Emmit Smith.
Now could they have won without Aikman? I mean they traded to get Kosar from Browns and he played well enough to win the 1993 NFC Championship game.
Troy Aikman is one class act, I really miss him playing football & being the great leader he was & still is! One of the best QB’s ever & broadcaster also in my book!
As a life-long Eagles fan, I sure hated Aikman in the 90's when he was crushing us twice a year, but what a stand-up guy! Jerry Jones sure has made a mess of that franchise since the 90's!
Mid 1990s. I am interning at the Fox station in Dallas. Helping out with the live taping of The Pat Summerall Show one afternoon. Troy is the guest but is running late. They tell me to go up front and let him in when he arrives.
Eventually, his SUV pulled in and out stepped this super-sized human being. Standing in the vestibule, I held the outside door open as he walked past. It took a few seconds for me to latch the front door. I turned around and there is Troy holding the inner door open for me as if to say, "You deserve to have the door held for you as much as I do."
I was astounded by his generous act. I would have thought nothing if he whisked past me to the set where they were waiting for him. But he made it a point to show this intern some respect.
I have recounted that story many times over the years. I will never forget my encounter with Troy Aikman. What a guy.
Jimmy Johnson and Norv Turner's last season was 1993 at Dallas. Too bad. They could've won the whole decade. Great Coaches need great players and vice versa.
As a lifelong Saints fan, I knew as much about Troy Aikman than anybody else who follows football. After watching this and some other interviews, I think that if he had had any interest in head coaching and gotten snapped up by a smart team owner, he could have gone from hall of fame status to, basically, immortality status in football.
I have sat and sweated in that stadium so many times. Tom Jones took me there. We had a parking pass. As I have said many times, thinking back, we never know the good we have done. I've changed my mind a lot of times because I learned more about people. I know Troy raises money for cancer. I hope you keep giving away tickets for Cowboy games. Training camp is about to start up. My schedule is on my fridge. People can make things look easy. They are not. Love, Elaine
My old roommate in OKC was Alan Spangler… he told me he was the center for Troy in high school. I wonder if he’s the one guy that was bigger than Troy! Alan was a big boy!!
