We built our own $13,000 eFoil for less than $3,000 — from scratch!

Instead of spending $13K on an eFoil, we decided to see if we could build our own DIY electric hydrofoil for a fraction of the price. We made the board from foam, built our own battery, installed the motor and electronics, fiberglassed the board, and finally put our homemade eFoil to the test.

Did it actually work? Watch through the lake test to see if our $3,000 DIY eFoil could actually fly!

What an incredible build!! You've got the skills of an electrical engineer, designer, machinist and surfboard shaper. No wonder these efoils aren't cheap. Thanks for documenting the build!

This is the first time I've seen someone put together a full detailed build video like this, so nice work! I've been into DIY e-foils and Foil.Zone for 2 years now. Currently making my second board and I have a bunch of the same components you used (pretty sure I recognized the Fliteboard prop and the motor mount design). Glad it paid off with some nice drone shots cruising on the lake.
One unfortunate decision I think was sealing the battery in there semi permanently, but I get the concern about keeping it dry. These boards are so heavy and awkward to carry with the battery. I always have to take two trips from car to water and carry the battery separately.
