He was never given a name. Not one single character in this entire show ever calls him anything but a title.
And here's the strange part: across eight seasons, this character barely appears. Add up every scene he's actually in, and you get about fourteen minutes. That's it. Fourteen minutes to become one of the most feared antagonists in modern television.
By the end of this video, you'll know exactly who he was before he became this, why an entire war was fought just to contain him, and how the single most feared being in this story was undone in less time than it takes to blink, by someone nobody in that moment even saw coming.
So let's start at the very beginning, because the truth about the Night King is a lot stranger, and a lot more disturbing than most Game of Thrones fans realize.

Why would the Night King raise an army and go north waiting for a wall to be build before deciding to invade South ?
Why would he wait ?
Why would there be prophecy warning "Winter is coming" for millenaries ?
The story is much stranger and disturbing than what you say.
The Children of the Forest used their ancient magic to defend themselves against the First Men, who were slaughtering their people and cutting down their sacred weirwood trees. To survive, they broke the laws of nature. They animated the corpses of fallen warriors and infused dark magic into forgotten creatures, turning them into vessels of death. However, this corrupted magic quickly spiraled out of their control. The absolute cold and the dead's hunger for destruction answered to no master. The spectral army brutally turned against all living things, massacring Men and the Children of the Forest alike, plunging Westeros into the Long Night.Amidst this chaos, as the world teetered on the brink of extinction, a single squad of human warriors achieved the impossible. Led by the legendary Last Hero, this small band braved deadly blizzards and hordes of wights. They managed to track down the last of the Children of the Forest, hidden deep within their subterranean sanctuaries.Putting aside centuries of bloody warfare, the desperate men begged their former enemies for help against this invisible, relentless foe advancing through the dark. Realizing their terrible mistake, the Children accepted.
The Children of the Forest turned the legendary Last Hero into the Night King so that he could take control of the undead army, drive them North and contain them as much as he could.
From this desperate alliance, the Night's Watch was born, dragonglass weapons were forged, and the Great Wall of ice was raised to seal the Night King away for millennia to come.
Because there was a catch.
The Children of the Forest knew the Last Hero would eventually be missing the place where he was born and come back with its army.
Hope this helps
