The interesting thing is the German navy is currently eyeing the SH Cube system, which is the successor of Stanflex, for future ships and maybe even retrofit of older designs who already have container spaces(F125, F126).
And when the German navy buys big ships it usually is TKMS and/or NVL (now Rheinmetall) , so a MEKO with The Cube is not unlikely.

37:02 Yep just paint it dark Green with Red Accents and Que the Klingom theme I haft to agree.

This would have rather similar advantages to the Boxer program. Seperating the drive section from the equipment section allows for a level of modularity, but it also allows for the ability to bring countries on board by allowing for lisenced production of only certain parts. BAE can make the hull but you're going to buy an Israeli module for this one mission set you have.

34:34 around 2003 Ireland put a tender out for an “Enhanced Patrol Vessel”

The idea was that it was to be a “blue/green ship” which could be an OPV and a landing ship.

The initial concept drawing (pre competition) was a MEKO 200 (with a large open deck). Don’t think the MEKO 200 at that stage was a frigate.

Absalon and Esbern Snare, the two combat ferries.

good one

"Is it too much modularity?" then at 1:13 "I WILL reuse slides". Because they are... what's the word? ... "modular". 😇

The British would not accept a combined modular weapons and modular ship program without allowing them to build it themselves
to maintain domestic industry and to build the things to Royal Navy standards and the Germans handing over technical stuff as well to allow them to build it.

I wonder if starships might be based on modules.  Without the water and air interfaces you have a lot of flexibility in shape.

A very interesting thought. If you really wanted to make it interesting, have someone think of a 'Stanflex Tall', with the same footprint but a height under deck of 6 or ideally 7 meters. A 6 meter height should allow the mounting of Sylver A50 VLS cells, with Aster 30 missiles, in a module. Sylver and Aster were in development in the 1980s so it isn't too outlandish. A 7 meter module would allow tactical Mk 41 cells to be mounted, with Standards. While Stanflex Tall module sockets probably wouldn''t be too common on ships, it would allow a lot more mission options.

Meko A200 with Stanflex also opens up other options. Even if the USN goes ahead with the LCSs as historically, they might be a lot more interested in a Meko A200 with Stanflex, if there are already Mk41 strike VLS modules available, when they go looking for a design for FFG(x), which became Constellation.

I predict an "upward spiral" and two, maybe 3 STANFLEX sizes, ie. a "deeper" Stanflex+ and a double base sized one - ie which can accept TWO normal modules side-by-side if neeeded (which eventually migh lead to a SF double + version too.).

Another little considered effect is the one of "tighter manufacturing standards". In the early XXth cent. US mass manufacturing became dominant - among other things - that when a Ford rolled to "your" station, you picked up a part, screwed or bolted it to the half ready vehicle AND IT FIT. No need for a little work with a filer or similar.

Now imagine such tight manufacturing standards with weapon modules (mechanical, electrical and electronical - both hardware and software). "Plug and play" becomes reality earlier.

For smaller nations, the Stanflex/MEKO style modular system as your core naval setup and something like the modular CV90 family of tracked armor as your core land mechanized setup would provide a very capable and flexible force.

Would it be the best? Of course not. Would it provide you with a capable and flexible core to your forces? Absolutely.

Once you get past a certain number of nations involved in the Meko Flex program Canada unavoidably get involved

Can you do a Type 31 vs New Mogami / Aus GPF comparison video and maybe you could add in the latest meko 200 equivalent.

I don't think the US would have allowed it: if the Algerians say can have access to cutting edge US weapons just by buying a Stanflex module into their existing system, the US won't allow them to be integrated

While the F 128 is Meko 200 DEU the F 127 may only be inspired by Meko 400. Since F 127 is still in development we dont know what it will be in the end.

Don't forget that the Anzacs are on there way out and we aren't replacing them with Meko's.

For 10:58, this quantity list is outdated, they have been worked on and usually (if ever) Sea Sparrows aren't carried and instead carries 12 ESSM per container in Mk. 56 VLS cells :) These were carried in the Red Sea when the Iver Huitfeldt had malfunctions and issues with various systems, though particularly the radar, and eventually caused the navy to look for a new air defence frigate.

Hope that's informative! Great video.

Klingons? That's quite a stretch. Have you ever looked at the French FDI frigate, which has the same design and has now won the Swedish tender against the British Type 31? It doesn't seem so bad.

22:09 for that to work, thr other countries need to have them built in British yards
