I recently traveled to Kanazawa, and tried out an overnight bus!
The facilities were excellent, the seats were comfortable, and I slept much better than I expected, making for a truly fulfilling trip. I was able to get to Kanazawa for less than half the price of the Shinkansen, so I think it's definitely a viable mode of transportation. ✨
And best of all, I loved being able to sleep in the canopy seating that's unique to Prime! It's a highly recommended mode of transportation for solo travelers.
