This beautiful old vernacular Victorian mansion was built in the late 19th century around 1880-1890 for a wealthy doctor and his family. The doctor sadly never got to live in the house very long as he traveled alot and passed away from some sickness in South America around 1919-1920. Newspapers didn’t specify exactly the cause of illness but it’s possible it was the Spanish flu or something similar. The house remained lived in by the daughter who would have kids of her own in the house but sadly more tragedy followed the family as her daughter passed away at an early age, couldn’t find any specific information on the cause. After the elderly daughter passed away with no remaining family the house has sat empty and forgotten since the late 1980’s. Now a massive jungle has grown up around the house but farm land is still being used. Thanks to the farmer for allowing to film this old house.
Also shown is a brief tour from the Sheriff of the original jail house in an old town in Georgia. The jail was built in 1807 from massive stone slabs, had two jail cells on the first floor and a trap door on the second floor where condemned prisoners were hanged. An iron bar supported the trap door. When the signal was given, the hangman pulled the lever that controlled the bar and the culprit was launched into eternity. It was used as a jail until around 1895. Big thanks to the officer for the tour and being so knowledgeable!
