“These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.” This movie meant so much to me as a lonely little girl who escaped into fiction.

Danny devito pretty much did everything on this movie: starred, narrated, produced and directed it. But most importantly him and his wife (who also plays his wife in themovie!) took care of Mara (matilda) as her mother was in hospice dying of cancer as the movie was shot. Danny even got an advanced copy of the film so Mara's mother could see it before she died, which she eventually went on to do 4 months before the movie released. He also dedicated the movie to her.

Both of you crushing on Miss Honey is too adorable.

"You were born into a family that doesn't always appreciate you. But one day, things are going to be very different."

I, a 22 year old man, cry everytime I hear this

fun fact about the scene where she’s dancing with the appliances, the actress was super shy to dance alone so the crew and the set workers (i think) all danced with her 🫶🏿so sweet 💕

Danny and his wife were saints to Mara! Took care of her while her mom was passing of cancer....

It just hit me now. Did he call her bumblebee because their lastname was Honey.

To this day I still say “much too good for children” when my cat is begging me for human food

Danny Devito directed, narrated, and starred in this. The woman playing his wife is his wife in real life. In the books, Matilda loses her powers after being adopted by Miss Honey. Her powers came through rage and strife. She was happy with Miss Honey, so she no longer had access to her powers.

As a kid who grew up w a verbally abusive dad, this movie was always a comfort for me, helping me realize that found family was the most important thing & that everything would be ok someday

the look of horror on robs face when bryce was telling the story of the van that used to pull up on him lol

I'm 33 yo and I still cry when every student is cheering for Bruce 😭 I love a good cameraderie scene!

Funny that you mentioned Harry Potter. Ms. Trunchbull also played Marge Dursley in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Watching it back is a totally different experience. The whole “fantasy” is just the world from a child’s perspective.

When you’re 3 feet tall being tossed above someone over 6ft is basically flying.

The power adults have, “I’m smart, you’re dumb, I’m big, your little” is basically what every kid hears when they are being bossed around.

Your favorite teacher is like an adoptive parent.

Stories are magic before you fully grasp the difference between fiction and non fiction.

when rob leans his head on his hand, the poster behind him makes it look like he has little devil horns & it's so cute 😭💗

'Miss Honey' is portrayed by Embeth Davidtz.  She also co-stars alongside Robin Williams in the sci-fi/drama/comedy/romance BICENTENNIAL MAN (1999) and I highly recommend it.

The trunchbull actress is actually the sweetest person, but she plays the Villain so well.  Ms Honey was a lot of people's first crush 😊

Man I loved this movie when I was a kid. Haven’t seen this gem in a while.
Little fun fact: the actress who played Trunchbull also played Marge Dursley in Harry Potter (Vernon’s sister).
Which is why she sounds British.

"What's a Xerox?" - Damn, that hit me hard.
