In this video, I demonstrate the process of creating a quail pattern: Uzura-de using the Nerikomi technique.
Although this pattern is traditionally associated with two colours, I have used three colours in this demonstration to explore a slightly different feel.
Nerikomi is a technique that allows colour and form to be built directly into the clay itself. The process is slow and methodical, but it offers a unique way of working with pattern, distortion, and composition.
I hope you enjoy watching the process, and feel inspired to try it in your own practice.

📣 Learn this with us!
We run Nerikomi workshops in London Fields, East London. There are subtle nuances that are best understood through hands-on practice, and attending in person gives you the chance to learn through direct experience.
Patterns like this, which involve a lot of preparations and others that explore more complex designs, can be explored in our three-week course. We’d love to have you join us one day. 😊
