Between Ang Lee's directing and Emma Thompson's adaptation and performance, the 1995 version is a hard act to follow. It'll be interesting to see how this does.
Will love to see this, but it is frustrating to see that once again, they use such dull colors for the costumes. They actually had color back in the 19th century. Just go to any fashion museum and see how beautiful and vibrant clothing was in the past. I don't know why the fashion designers in movies seem to thing shades of brown were the only color option.
Ever since the 2022 Persuasion (and the announcement of the new Pride and Prejudice), I've been weary of new Austen adaptations, but this actually looks pretty good! Cautiously optimistic...
After so many Austen fumbles recently this one looks like it's trying hard to be faithful and shows signs of delivering a lovely adaptation. That said- Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson are some tough acts to follow! Hope it does well and brings more Austen joy to the world!
Ugh. Period dramas without even an attempt at period hairstyles. Regency era was colorful. Why does everyone want to film in dull colors thinking they're colorblind Nolan?
FFS sake where's the colour and WHERE are the combs?! Just because our modern times are going to shit and the whole world is losing colour doesn't mean you have to leach the life out of period films. And their hairstyles are just ATROCIOUS. I mean, I'm complaining and all I know I'll buy a ticket for the first-day-first-show but GODDAMMIT.
Why do these remakes always have the characters looking so raggedy? In this it looks like the cottage they live in is a peasant cottage. In the book it was way nicer. And the characters were from the upper class, so they wouldn’t have been wearing rumpled clothes. And why does Willoughby looked like a peasant farmer? He’s supposed to be dashingly handsome. I guess the 1995 version set the bar high!
