I remember when I was in highschool and made music, the only thing we did was rip sounds from other tracks since we used trackers and had no idea how to create sounds and we didn't have money to buy synths or smith.. and we made a track every weekend! Now I have everything I want and I struggle to finish one a month 😂 your story makes a lot of sense

cacophony of sorrow is giving me PTSD 🤣

The cacophony of sorrow with Michael fading in got me bursting in laughter 😂

This channel is pure gold

my guy here putting a new spin on the classic "fake it 'til you make it" :P

This is my FIRST comment on Youtube...EVER!  That said, I've been producing tracks using methods similar to what you're using for years.  I can say from experience that this method truly works!  I use a track (or two) to lay down a rough idea, then go back and replace E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G  with my own instruments/soft synths from my sound library as well as adding my signature sound/ideas.  As you say, "Rip and replace",  or as the late songwriter/producer Vaughan Mason used to say, "steal the feel."

Copyright clarification:
A few of you have questioned why a simple drum beat is copyrightable, This is partly my fault for not defining which copyright but this is often confused;
Please be aware there are 2 main copyrights in music;
A) Writing & B) Recording.
A) Writing copyright is the music notes and lyrics as they may be published on paper like a book, same as oldschool book publishing. When it was all just live instruments before recording with invented , This is how music was copyrighted .
In a modern electronic context, this would be the midi notes and sequencies we choose.
B) Recording copyright Is a recorded version of that written work.
(What we would call a mixdown or render or master etc)

When I talk about sampling drums infringing copyright in this video, I'm referring to the recording copyright.
It's very possible the drum rhythm is too simple and common to be copyrighted as a piece of writing (composition) because in terms of writing copyright, there does have to be a minimum level of complexity to warrant it.
Whereas recording copyright requires no such complexity, and in theory, every recording is unique and therefore copyrightable.

So to be clear, in this case we are talking about recording copyright. I should have specified which sorry.

i think another good advice would be

if you find good sounding drums later (perc loops, hat loop, any one shots) make folder where you store them
and in next time you can use PRESELECTED drums

The part where you search through samples got me 😂😂😂

Cacophony of sorrow lmfaoooooo

The cacophony of sorrow is fantastic.
But yeah, the worst part is that building a good drum sequence gets your ear tired after a while. It certainly doesn't help!

So yeah that's a good method I haven't thought of before.

DJs use this trick to finish tracks faster : they call you so you can make it 😂

This is the game plan, sit down and get ready for the marathon - weee gonna stream btheclick from episode one to end - you will do this in one sitting over a period of several days. And after - you will finish house tracks much quicker and better - ❤

Thanks for another very nice video! Here's a tip on splitting: the free version of Virtual DJ does some decent stem splitting out of the box so you can record the output directly into your daw via audio routing and there's no need to deal with compressed mp3 files from the free ai stem splitting services or pay for splitting, and you get higher-quality drums.... Also, in Ableton Live 12 you can consolidate the kick and snares to a clip and use the find similar sounding sound feature of the browser to quickly find kicks and snares that sound like the reference... I hope this saves someone some time...

05:12 I feel attacked

'Cacophony of Sorrow' LMAO!!!!!!!

hahahahaha i laught so hard in snare michael part LOL

I come from a rock band background as a guitar player. I played hundreds of gigs, national radio and had singles in the top 30 (this was a very long time ago). Every guitar player will tell you that the initial learning process, by default, heavily involves learning how to play like your favourite guitar players, ideally being able to copy them to a level that is indistuinguishable to the listener. So eventually it is clear you can not only play as well as the pros can, but as you are able to combine bits of their styles all together in such a unique way you are considered a competent player in your own right, and not just another wannabe Edge or Mark Knophler or whoever it happens to be.

Years later and you are now in a band on the verge of getting a record deal. You are writing a new song. The last thing anyone wants to happen is that people hear it and think "nahh, they're just trying to sound like (insert other band)". Least of all record execs who will immediately toss it aside as that fad is now 'last year' and the public are sick of it. The very concept of putting on anybody elses music and then frequently returning to it to check it sounds enough like it is unthinkable. It wouldn't even enter your mind, and if it did people would think you were joking - it could only be a sarcastic hint that this is starting to sound far too much like them, pull it together. And that's the best case scenario I can imagine.

Well, after it ended all that time ago that I became obsessed with EDM, and 20 years later, despite knowing everything I thought I should, I have achieved precisely nothing worthwhile except the knowledge that at least I've been attempting to do something productive. Why? All along the one thing which was literally unthinkable to me is, in fact, an essential part of working practice and it would be foolhardy not to do it.

For this one game changing insight alone Mr. Bthelick, I sincerely cannot thank you enough.

Man what a powerful tool. For the past few days ive been stuck on finding suitable vocals for my current song. Just really really stuck. Well today I decided to use a vocals reference for some rip and replace. Holy hell man, INSTANTLY unstuck. Jeez. The reference right before the drop says "I wanna". which is cool, but im a fiend for these beats. I dont wanna dance, i GOTTA dance. So i decided to try and find an acapella that says "I gotta". The first one I found works perfect for this replace, and also for replacing the other chops in the song. killer technique and thank you again for sharing.

We now have the R&R as well as the three R's. Great vid as always:)
