Why Has Lownie Changed His Mind About Diana? | Everything He's Said

Andrew Lownie Clips

141,841 views

Earl Spencer's book about his sister comes out on 22 September and Buckingham Palace has already answered it with an unprecedented statement from The King.

Andrew Lownie, Britain's most-read royal biographer, has spent a year saying something different about Diana: that his own view of her has changed since 1997, and that "we've all been taken in by the palace spin".

This film is everything he has said about her, in his own words, from the marriage to the friendship with Sarah Ferguson to Harry and the Spencers today.

Mount batten was the wrong person to give KC advice since he had the morals of an alley cat

Diana broke off contact with Fergie because, as Fergie was about to write her autobiography, Diana said, "Please don't include anything about me in the book. Make the book about you, don't include me." Fergie agreed. But then, when Fergie's book publishers read the final draft, they told Fergie that including Diana would increase readership & make her more $$$. So Fergie, ever the mercenary, put something in about Diana. And that's when Diana cut her off.

"Have as many affairs as you like" ...how utterly ungodly and ridiculous those lot are!

I think the Royal family expected Diana to act like every other Princess of Wales and ignore the infidelities.

Why is there no reporting on the fact that Charles and Diana had reached a rapprochement before Diana’s death and were on much better terms than in the last years of their marriage? They both, in their way tried to be good parents and would have known this was best for the boys. It serves the press to play on bad relationships because this sells headlines.

I remember very well the gossip on Charles, on his mistress, and the grotesque jealousy of Charles when people prefered Diana.

Diana was treated terribly by the King. He used her to produce his heirs then told her he'd done his job and the marriage was over according to Diana. No wonder she was depressed and suicidal. She wanted to be loved but he loved Camilla and expected her to just put up with it.

To all intents it was an arranged marriage between two incompatible people with a big age difference. Did anyone really expect it to work.

Diana was treated appallingly by the then Prince Charles, both before, during, and after their marriage. She was so young and naive, and he was so worldly, callous, and self-indulgent; they should never have married. All she was to the royal family was a virgin with a healthy uterus. He feigned affection for her only for as long as it took to produce an heir. The royal family and their staff all knew about him and Camilla, and they were all complicit in making a fool of Diana and gaslighting her. They never respected or appreciated her as a person in her own right. I will never respect King Charles as a man and a husband. A lovely young woman like Diana will naturally turn to someone else for love, affection, and a bit of human warmth if her husband disparages her, disrespects her, does not appreciate her, laughs at her behind her back with his friends (and lovers), and overall, does not love her. Who can blame the poor woman? Now that she is not around to defend herself, she is attacked by all and sundry and seen as the cause of all the marital problems they had, and he is seen as the good guy. Please, give me a break. People are just sucking up to him. What self-respecting woman will put up with Charles' behaviour right off the bat, through his and Diana's engagement and after their marriage? I will always be Team Diana. That poor woman; she deserved better than Charles and the royal family. She deserved to be loved, appreciated, respected, and 'seen'. This is what a woman wants, especially from her marital partner and in-laws. It is no secret.

Why did the British Embassy in Paris need a junior English policeman as a "translator" that night? It makes no sense. No British diplomat in Paris could speak French? So what was his real function that night?

@tracywilborn 2 weeks ago

It was never a genuine love match between Charles and Diana. Camilla was always there. She was at the wedding, wearing white. Charles never loved Diana, "Whatever that means," tell you all you need to know.

IT IS SO DISGUSTING HOW DIANA WAS TREATED

@kinor-5787 2 weeks ago (edited)

He all of 32, she just 20! Di only started having affairs after realising it was a ménage à trois with Camilla. Who can blame her? Our King and Queen are adulterers, liars, cheats, life-destroyers. What short memories we have.

The Palace spin machine relentlessly to this day puts out lies for the pro-Establishment media (BBC/Times) to parrot and a gullable public to swallow.

Diana was up against dark forces, the machinery of state, the powers that be. Hardly an even contest. Yet she won our hearts with her beauty and common humanity, and gained our sympathy for her courageous battling against the odds.

Operation parker bowles arranged by charles and mark boland to undermine diana and make her look unstable and to manipulate us all into accepting camilla. Disgusting and i believe charles spencer.

The fact that so many people suspect Diana was murdered proves the Royal Firm is not held in the high regard it is claimed to be.

I WAs NEVER taken in by Camilla

This new narrative that Charles and Diana were "in love" initially is simply not true. He was never in love with her and he said as much in their engagement interview. He admitted he wasn't in love. He also told Diana the night before the wedding he wasn't in love with her. So I don't know where people like Lownie get this idea of them being "in love." ? What Lownie conflates is Charles pretending to be in love with Diana so he could breed his heir and spare, and actual "love." He went along with the charade that many royals have prior to him. He knew he had to act "in love" with her as she was giddy and he needed to keep her happy so they could have sex and have their children. But that's different to feeling it. Love was never a prerequisite to royal men in the past. To Diana it came as a shock that someone wouldn't marry "for love." She was naive and romantic and young. Charles was with Camilla prior to meeting Diana. He was never "in love"with Shy Di and never would be and ended up despising her. Thus the "we will soon forget her" now-already-iconic comment. He was exhausted by her and the media stories and the fights and the expectations and the endless scandals. None of this makes it ok, by the way - but I feel the need to correct the misconceptions you all have on here because you all simply don't know. And it's time to correct all the nonsense.
