My wife has asked a store employee to walk her out on a couple of occasions. Better to be safe when some weirdo is following you around. Most stores have some security and they are happy to help you.
This scenario has happened at two department stores in the St. Louis area in the last 3 years that I know of. Keep your eyes open. And if this happens while I’m in the store, I’m your dad and we need to get home for dinner.
Here is one quick must do in an emergency. Someone must take control, even if they don't have a clue as what to do. Point at one person and shout at them, "CALL 911 NOW!" Point at another person and ask, "Do you know CPR?" Or, "Can you manage a wound?" This will snap people out of the bystander effect. If you see something, do something, and get (well force is not quite the right word) but force others to get involved as well.
It’s such an awful thing that women have to go through life like this. But the law doesn’t seem to care. And it’s so awful that the law doesn’t seem to comprehend the horror of everyday life for women. These guys if caught get a slap on the hand from the courts after stalking and threatening a girl or woman. I’m sick of it.
My sister was on a work assignment in New York City. Another coworker who lived in New York City invited her to dinner. My sister looked out a window and the woman casually said right down there is where Kitty was murdered. This was about 15 years later but my sister said it felt like she was looking at the actual murder scene.
Over 20 years ago my little girl and I were followed around in a Target store. I became aware of the guy just getting too close, for no reason. I too moved to a different spot, and when the guy showed up again and got too close, I got mad. I turned around and faced him. I got loud and asked if he understood anything about personal space. I looked him in the eye and told him to get away from us. He backed off. I am not very big, but I can really get loud . Especially when angry.
