Miriam Morales shouldn't be able to do what she's doing. A twenty-year-old Mixtec woman, the daughter of farmers, without elite sponsorships, has just won two of Asia's most demanding trail races in six months. In this video, we explain how an athlete from Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, is humiliating Chinese runners on their own turf—and why the Mexican sports system still doesn't understand what it has on its hands.

We analyze the Mixtec training method, the legacy left by her father, the role of the Mexico Imparable program, and the competitive context of international trail running where Miriam has just burst onto the scene with authority.
