the biggest influence in my decision to play congas...grew up listening to Santana my whole life but then one live concert in Arizona and Raul's playing took over my soul. God Bless him and the legacy he left behind. No one like him in style. He was unique and played with heart & spirit every single time.
He died way too young! He was a great positive force and my inspiration to play hand drums. I started playing on pots and pans when I was a kid. We were poor and I could not afford real instruments. I followed Santana from the early 70s and then I got into jazz rock and many other genres. I’m in plank and drums my whole life. I am now 65 and have four sets of drums. Raul Rekow and Carl Perazzo Had an incredible chemistry together and really made the Santana band!
RIP Raul. His smile will be as everlasting as his passion. RIP Armando Peraza, Mongo Santamaria, Ray Barretto, Johnny Dandy Rodriguez...and a shout out for Eddie Montalvo, Orestes Vilato and others all with the same passion.
I have been a fan of Santana from the time I first saw him in the Woodstock Festival. I have seen him in concert three times since then and had the privilege of seeing Raul playing congas with his band. Raul is by far the best and I miss his fantastic playing. R.I.P.😂😂😂😂😂
