Some people will not watch the video. If you love Spearhead I'm super happy for you and want you to keep having fun so please don't think I'm saying what you are doing is bad. its not for me and I think there is a better way to get where we all want to be.
Loads of love Rob

Spearhead has been extremely beneficial for my local scene to onboard new players into 2k. We have ran several Spearhead events and have subsequently added almost double the amount of players. Even the dedicated 2k players with several armies will pick up random spearheads for hobby projects and to test run armies for a potential next full force. Big thing is that we all think it's super fun

Finally! A proper episode of "Just the Tip"

When Spearhead was first announced, a guy i've played with (who is definitely That Guy) immediately asked if he could run a Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon in Spearhead. The fact that he can't do that is definitely one of the positives of Spearhead!

I dunno, Spearhead is pretty cool as its own parallel mini-game. It’s got a lot of people jumping into AoS for the first time - me included. Locally, the only AoS tables at the shops that see regular play are Spearhead tables. Most SH players then move on to 1k games and beyond. But Spearhead games are always fun for ppl who want to try new armies.

Both me and my ’now’ wargaming buddies got into this hobby through Spearheads promise that we only had to buy this discount box and it would deliver a somewhat balanced game.

I think for many curious about this hobby they get stuck in choice paralysis. They look at the wall of units in the store, someone recommends a hero, the dude next to you strongly disagrees - you should get the other hero. You laugh it off but deep down you’re scared of buyers remorse so you leave the store empty handed.

With Spearhead I can spontaneously set up a demo game in 3 minutes at home for any buddy interested, we can hash out 2 or 3 rounds before the evening is over with me just guiding them. I don’t even have to pre-explain any core rules. They had fun, we didn’t have to go into which heroes are meta etc. Most importantly they now know that a 1 box purchase can give them this experience.

Spearhead got me into proper AOS and I love it. I love that I can teach other people and play different factions without worry about list building

I love spearhead, time to play after work, self contained game, can never be really cancelled by GW. I own an army from each grand alliance and right now its all I play. You call it you tube shorts, I call it balancing your hobby with every day life. It's perfect for me.
If you want to know how popular it is, try running a tournament, just saying 😉

Being not for you and being an "abject failure" are two entirely different things

I started playing spearhead with my brother and my friends were introduced to the game because of that. Easy entry for a total stranger to wargaming. 2 years laters (and many spearhead boxes bought), we now play 2000pts weekly. Last week I played Skaven vs my friend's Nighthaunt, and it was a blast.

Bruv, this is such a banging idea.

My partner and I both collect AoS but have very different production metas. I'm a slap chop crusader but she works as a professional decorative artist, so always takes her time to develop her schemes.

We need small scale games, where my churning out numbers of units meets with her slower accumulation of units.

I like to learn to play by rotating lists and changing things up whereas she likes to master each army list before moving on to the next.

I think smaller scale allows for us to both indulge in our preferred ways of building models and armies.

Me and my local club play lots of 2k games but also run Spearhead nights at the club. I love that it gives an avenue for dipping toe into lots of different factions without committing further to a full army.

Was a great discussion. I enjoy both AoS and Spearhead, but honestly the idea of the smaller points pack would be absolutely amazing and I'd love  to give it a try.

Spearhead got my friends to finally try warhammer AOS. They all have full armies now. I think its popular among the casual community.

Rob, you keep referring to "skills" here.  People need to develop their skills, Spearhead prevents skill building, etc.  What "skills" are you referring to, because from my experience, Spearhead does teach a lot of the basic skills needed to play a full AOS game - tempo, pacing, movement and screening, accurately gauging distances for charges and combat.

I started AOS 2k point a year ago because of spearhead. Never been a this type of gamer before. Know I have every spearhead army and 7 2k points army. I love it and will never say anything bad about spearhead. It maid me and my friend love the game

Tournament players: Spearhead is bad because it doesn't have the depth of list building I expect.
Also tournament players: I just pick the best enhancements, the singular best spell, spam the best unit because someone else told me that wins tournaments.
"Why do they even bother printing these enhancements if only one of them is good?"
🤡🤡🤡

I enjoy spearhead because of its streamlined gameplay and much smaller model count. It’s been a great starter point for me to get into AOS. Everyone I know always raves about how great of a system it is.

I think Spearhead format is the most enjoyable format GW has ever made for a casual gamer. They should keep it and possibly expand also on other settings.

A positive thing about spearhead is that games workshop have made a game where the message 'if you buy this then you don't have to buy anything further' is genuinely true. Kill team is similar as are some of the blood bowl teams but for the most part the business model is 'this cheaper box gets you started BUT to win you need this and this and this'  It's not Age of Sigmar, it's an affordable, ring fenced hobby project with a game to play alongside.
