This video is my opinion on LASO. I think that some of these topics would really change the face of LASO, while others simply question the spirit of LASO.

Things get pretty nerdy on this one with how in depth you have to go. Some people will not agree with everything, but that's the spirit of it, to figure out what is the best possible way forward. Just remember, I try to remain as objective as possible, and not let feelings get in the way too much.

You can already use camo for half of Halo 2. 343 removing Envy from the playlist was just dumb.

I don't think the skulls were ever intended to be used the way the community ended up using them with LASO. It would be great if the developers were more aware of how we engage with the game, but originally, the skulls felt more like cheat codes in GoldenEye; some made the game easier, others made it harder.

As for Bandana, I think it's a useful skull for practicing glitches, speedruns, and similar stuff. That said, it does make LASO significantly easier, and the whole point of LASO is to be a tough challenge. I think the real issue with LASO is the branding. We've taken it very literally, but maybe we should've called it the "Mythic Challenge" or something similar to keep it open to interpretation while preserving the spirit of the challenge.

A skull I always thought about would be called Heretic, which gives all Covenant human weapons. Then Tilt would partially balance that by letting your shields take more damage from bullets so its less oppressive.

And as a person that's hip fired as the sniper enough in Battlefront 2 on PC, you really do get a decent sense for where your crosshair is

I think a way to reinforce the role of Skulls as a fun goofy modifier is to combine them, so you gain an advantage while being knee-capped another way.

Examples:

>GLUTTON- weapons no longer overheat or need to reload, but your ammo reserves are cut in half.

>BERZERK- Deal double damage, but enemies dont take damage until your own shields are depleted.

>THORN IN MY SIDE- Chief is pursued by an unkillable grunt named Blip Blap 10 seconds after the level begins.

Honestly with how oppressive some of these LASO areas can be across the game I'd say use everything you can to beat this shit. If 343 never patched things out like H1 infinite ammo or the save and quit loophole, that's on them. It is within their power to detect you're playing LASO and tell you that you will lose your progress if you quit, or patch out a bug in a fucking 20+ year old game.

I think he forgets the skulls aren’t there to make laso better, skulls are there to be weird and fun. Laso is just a strange thing people like to do so they added it

@FlameSama1 1 year ago

Your point about reticle usage versus save/quit seems like it boiled entirely down to personal preference. They're both loopholes to get around the rules established by the skulls.

I think the main problem that you're sorta trying to get at is the fundamental community misperception that "LASO is Halo's true hardest difficulty".

It's not. It's a community driven challenge, like speedrunning.

In Halo 2, Bungie just threw in a bunch of wacky effects to mix up the game. It probably never even occurred to them that some masochists would keep their xbox powered on for days to collect all the skulls and then try to complete the game with them. There was no thought or balance into how the various mechanics would interact and which skulls made the game "easier" and which made the game "harder".

However, since then driven by the "hardest difficulty" meme, all the skulls that make the game "easier" are disabled and only those that make the game "harder" are supposed to be used. Not "All Skulls" which as you correctly point out is the true definition.

Should add a skull where enemy weapons are randomized. For instance having grunts wield energy swords or elites plasma pistols. I think that would certainly shake things up and be funny

@Heavy.Milked 1 year ago

Sure coulda used Envy on Gravemind.
Sure woulda been nice to have Envy there.
Don't even get me started on the Library with recession

LASO is supposed to be all the original skulls with no DLC skulls after MCC, so yes LASO is technically not “all skulls” but playing Halo 2 with Acrophobia, Bandanna, and the Scarab Gun skull isn’t really a challenge. All vanilla skulls explains why CEA LASO has Grunt Funeral as it appeared in the 360 CEA release

@ciabazac 1 year ago

LASO halo 3 summer of 2010 vid master challenges. Thats LASO, if you die, you get roasted. If you survive, but one of your comrades die, you do the roasting.

What an era.

I always thought a "faction swap" skull would be cool. Like, Covenant are now Flood, and Flood are now Covenant

@WillemDafuq69 1 year ago

If Iron couldn't be cheesed, i'd have never had the motivation to keep going. T&R and Regret would be INFURIATING without being able to save/quit and reload checkpoint.

@CorneliaLiBritannia777 1 year ago

I agree that if it's gonna be called LASO then it might as well have all skulls enabled. But 343 adds silly skulls to their games like I'm p sure Bandana is allowed in Halo Infinite LASO. It's pretty ironic that they thought envy was too much to the point that they made it a non scoring skull.

@samtheweebo 1 year ago

Grunt funeral was in og ce anniversary. It was a pre order bonus you downloaded. So originally it was there but only for those who pre ordered.

@connorking6852 1 year ago

A good skull idea branching off what you said at 14:24 would be no sound except the in game music. Could be named Marty’s moments or something dumb like that lol

@ohrocks71 1 year ago

I think a cool skull idea would be a skull called "Plauge/Zombies" where killing any possible "big" flood host (Marines, Elites, Brutes, etc.) would cause them to turn into a combat form a few seconds after their death.

It probably would stack with the "They Come Back" skull in 2A but this would be treated as a new Combat Form and not revived.
