On March 19, 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom began. Within hours, U.S. and coalition forces were moving across the Iraqi border toward Baghdad.

*OIF: The Drive to Baghdad* tells the story of the opening phase of the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the U.S. Army's rapid advance north toward the Iraqi capital.

Featuring historical footage and photographs, virtual terrain, animated maps, and one-on-one interviews with veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the documentary follows the soldiers and units involved in one of the fastest large-scale ground offensives in modern U.S. Army history.

The film follows the *3rd Infantry Division (Rock of the Marne)* as its forces breach the Iraq-Kuwait border and begin the long advance toward Baghdad. Along the way, U.S. forces secure key objectives near Tallil Air Base and Nasiriyah, encounter unexpectedly determined paramilitary resistance, and fight to maintain increasingly long lines of communication and supply.

The advance places enormous demands on soldiers, vehicles, logistics, maintenance, and command and control. M1A1 Abrams tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, artillery, attack aviation, engineers, and sustainment forces all play a role as the operation moves hundreds of kilometers across Iraq.

The documentary also examines the Army doctrine behind the campaign, connecting the historical events to concepts including operational initiative, combined arms, passage of lines, urban operations, feints, sustainment, movement control, and operational tempo.

And as the 3rd Infantry Division continues north, another major obstacle awaits:

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

This documentary was produced by *29 Pixel Studios* as part of our work supporting the U.S. Army's Army University Press.

Our relationship with Army University Press began in 2018, and since then the 29 Pixel Studios team has helped create more than 50 films exploring military history, leadership, doctrine, and the experiences of U.S. soldiers.

Following changes to the U.S. Army's social media presence, many of these films are no longer available through the original Army University Press YouTube channel. They remain preserved through DVIDS, and we're making the films we helped create easily accessible again through the 29 Pixel Studios archive.
