I was in middle school when Halo skyrocketed into popularity. Actual fights were occurring in the hallway over whether Morrowind or Halo was "the best Xbox game."

I had only played Morrowind at that point, so I decided to check out Halo.

By the time Halo 2 came out, I had a solid dozen and a half friends who would come over regularly for a LAN party.

You have not TRULY experienced Halo of any caliber, until you have gone to a physical LAN party. Being in the same room, getting all the Xbox's plugged in, figuring out how to properly space the room out, talking shit to each other during the game, ordering pizza, and nobody wanting to leave at the end of the night because we were all recapping the games we had just played together.

Not even close to replicable nowadays.

This picture looks like the perfect room with the perfect console and game that I never got to have as a child.

i wish i could somehow convey the pure magic and COUNTLESS hours of happiness, joy , friendship, and so much more that Halo CE somehow brought into my life... its almost mind numbing for me to look back on and hear this music and remember JUST HOW GOOOOOOOOOD it all was to experience in real time growing up... it simultaneously makes me sad that kids today will have NO IDEA how insane it was to experience it from launch day and the first time we had a full LAN party is just ...just beyond words....thank you Halo CE....ty old bungie!

Halo was my first Xbox game and introduction to 6th gen consoles and I'll never forget the first time I saw the Halo level with the graphics at the time. It's sad that 20 years later, no current games can measure up to the 2000s and early '10s of great video games.

man i remember being 4 or 5 playing the Halo CE and 2 on the original xbox that my dad got thru a flea market. i still remember shutting off the console when the evil space popcorn known as the flood first appeared lol. i was born in 2003 so i played around the time halo 3 first came out and didnt play 3 or Reach till around 2011.

many hours of shit talking in game chat and being a squeaker to 20 year olds who probably just got off work, shooting the shits with my school buddies, dicking around and just being stupid. man i miss those days. what i would give to go back in time and just.....play again like i used to. back when my favorite games were still popular and full of people, when you could have some guy have hitler as his emblem in black ops 2. when you could turn your brain off for hours playing SWAT and infected. Buidling hobo-shacks and underground kingdoms in Minecraft. Delving into the caves and caverns of Skyrim, and watching Dragon Ball Z every day after school.

The glory days people, where have they gone...?

I miss this... so much... I remember the last few days in my childhood home before we moved. It's all I can think about when I hear this.

Considering Halo released only two months after 9/11 whenever I hear the Halo theme it makes me wonder if anyone who perished on that day was anticipating the release of the game but never got to experience it and then also never got to experience the golden age of Halo (2001-2010) 😔
