Pudzian a true champion. Just look at the elite Guys he beat and he did it with a calf tear.

Some incredible performers in that final...Phister,Ostlund,Wenta and some promising up & comers too in Haugen,Bergman & of course Derek Poundstone. But the way Mariusz fought his way back after suffering a points-drop in a couple events is nothing short of incredible...and with a bad leg he injured in the heats! 12 years on & a record that still holds.

Ortmayer nearly destroyed himself a few years later.
Got addicted to painkillers, which cost him his marriage and Son.....then he got addicted to crack and ended up homeless and only eatting one meal every two days.
Got off it, but was a shell of his former self and had to start all again....but came back.
That's a hell of a story right there.

Man, it's crazy to see jf Caron so young and small here. That 800 lb deadlift he missed is a warmup for him these days. The old Canadian still a beast and going strong today, this was awesome.

In the deadlift Poundstone barely locked his hips out, Mariusz should have got full points

Thanks for this, having all the heats plus final in one is brilliant. Brings back exciting memories of that stone off at the end. Mariusz was some athlete, having an injury then fighting back from being behind on points was some achievement. Poundstone is probably the best ever not to win a WSM title, loved watching him perform though. To hold down a normal job (which probably involves shift work) and perform at that level is outstanding. Dave Orstland and big Phil seemed such gentleman and nice guys to be competing with.

Poundstone did the same stone miss in the heats as he did in the finals on the same pedestals interesting

one of the most infamous scenes in strongman history, even though it’s over 13 years ago I still cringe and I’m on the edge of my seat every time I watch Poundstone slip on the fifth stone

Mariusz winning with a torn calf makes me think of Eddie hall in 2015 complaining about a dislocated finger and not "winning" because of it lol say what you want about the level of competiition during the dominators reign. He is undoubtedly one of the best strongmen ever.
