It has been exactly one year since this day and I remember it like it was yesterday. I have read every comment on every social media and watched this more than I should. Jess fought for 10 years with her disease. She lived longer than the doctors anticipated because she was a fighter. She tried to talk me out of being there with her cause she did not want me to be traumatized. I will forever miss my best friend but there is comfort in knowing that she knew I loved her and that I held her hand till she took her last breath and that she knew she was not leaving this world alone.

She died on her own terms and in the safe arms of her friend and in her own bed. May this kind of death be for everyone. Rest in peace

Everyone deserves a friend like Wendy. The courage and love to be at a friends side as they die is mindblowing. Rest in peace Jessica.

It’s so easy to judge when you are NOT in her shoes. My respect to her and her incredible friend.

My mother died from liver cancer (HEP-B). She was in pallative care and had no option for assisted dying in England. When the pain was too much for her, she spent her last 10 days in hospital. One by one, us family members took turns each day to care and accompany her for 10 days, progressively she got weaker and weaker, wasting away in the hospital bed. Seeing her pass away on the 10th day was almost a relief to see her not suffering anymore and that she finally found comfort and peace. I wish she had the assisted dying to allow her to live her final moments the way she wanted to. All of us would never of had to see her suffer for 10 days in the horrible state she was.

This was journalism at its best. No exploitation, no sensationalism, no emotional manipulation. Just 9 minutes of insight into the life and death of a woman who's in control of her own destiny. Praise to all involved, especially Jessica and Wendy.

We all need a friend like Wendy. She’s sad that this is happening, but she’ll support her best friend to the end. This woman chooses to die with dignity.

Life just isn't fair. She's so young. I hope she finds peace in the next life.

So sad, but also great that she could go on her own terms, in her own house. RIP and condolences to anyone who knew her

After watching my 38 year old daughter battle breast and brain cancer, and suffer especially in the end, I know this is the humane option and completely respect her choice. We are all going to die, and the most we can hope for is to not suffer and experience pain in the end.

If I were ever terminal, I would want this option available to me.  I don't want a slow, painful death.

My father died suffering, sick and alone.  Unless you are ever in their place, you have absolutely no right to condemn those who choose to not suffer like the way my father did.  I miss my father every single day. I wish I had the chance to tell him how much I love him.

I’m so glad to see she had such a beautiful soulmate friend by her side.

My sister was offered MAID (medical assistance in dying) and she refused. Her discision was respected by the drs and she was never offered it again  She was put in a private room with excellent and compassionate nurses. I got to sleep every night there with her. When we were told that her death would come within the next 24 hours or so they gave us a family room across the hall so we could all be there with her. She was given morphine for pain and her husband agreed to her having some anxiety meds. She died peacfully. My point  is that there was zero pressure on her to chose MAID, and that the palliative  option was always there. So many people believe that having the assisted dying option takes away  the funding and quality of palliative care. I've had other friends choose assisted dying (different province ) and they received equally compasionate care.

If no one has someone to die by your side, to make you feel safe in your last moments, I volunteer to be that person. No one should die alone. 🙋🏻‍♀️❤

I hope that doctors okay, too. She had tears in her eyes the entire time she did that consult, and after. I don’t know how people can do that, bless her.

My uncle did the assisted suicide in Washington almost 10 years ago. When he heard about a woman moving here to use it, he was inspired by her. He had a degenerative muscle disease and was loosing strength every day & was scared he would loose his mobility all together and did not want to be a burden on my Aunt. I’ll never ever forget our conversation the night before he died and I’ll cherish it forever. His wife of 50 years, his 2 sons and my dad were with him when he passed. I have so much respect for anyone or their families, who go through this.
