This guy tragically died during the Pompeii eruption. Not because he lived there but because he was attempting to rescue his friend Rectina and was also very curious that he wanted to take a closer look. And just when he was going to leave by boat a noxious cloud hit him and he fell. His nephew Pliny the younger was invited to join but he had homework. He later became a writer too. And it's from him we have most of the roman documentation about the eruption of Vesuvius. Because he did hear from the guys who were with him when he fell. Edit: 36:00 Ohh someone beat me to it!

Plinny couldn't really independently verify things. The only evidence that a thing happened would be people saying they saw it. He got a lot of stuff surprisingly right considering their limits.

The three sun thing is a phenomenon known as sun dogs. Basically weird light refraction making it look like there are two extra suns.

one of the most airheaded vtuber reactions ive seen but still funny

imagine a snail stepping on a gap

the best Sam video! can't wait to watch it for the 8th time in the Vtuber meta

I'm not gonna lie I still think it's absolutely insane that this man got so much knowledge correct especially with the tools at his disposal and he also general seemed to have a really modern view on life and existence

this Vtuber girl is very gullible.

And now we witness everyone's favourite small-brained snail get bombarded with knowledge.

Flat earthers getting mogged by a guy from the 1st century lmao.

Ngl I can totally see “The whole universe started as a fire smaller than a grain of rice but just started getting bigger one day for some reason” and “the universe is always getting bigger because of some energy nobody can see or measure, but stars spin faster around their clusters because of MATTER that nobody can see or measure because it’s made of ghosts or something i dunno” are two modern science theories that would totally fit into this book lol

13:23 This one actually has a basis in reality. Ofc they aren't actually multiple suns, but sundogs, or parhelia, are a known though extremely uncommon atmospheric optical phenomenon where light from the sun creates a halo on one or both sides of the sun. They're caused by light refraction through ice crystals in the air.

36:28 I think Plini was referring to the tides in the North Sea here. There are areas in the Wattenmeer that are walkable during low tide that are located 10+ metres below the water surface during high tide. That is still within walking distance from the beach. I wouldn't be surprised if there are places further from shore that are over thirty metres below the water during high tide where you can stand during low tide.

Pliny believed that there were three types of people - black people, white people, and Mediterraneans. Black people were "dull" because they lived too close to the sun, white people were "savage" because they were too far away, while Mediterraneans (Romans, Greeks, Persians, etc.) were normal because they lived in the middle.

2:15 Only person to be upset about Nero death.

22:09 What a coincidence to said this, because a few days ago there is a clip of one streamer goes around, he got strike by lightning through his house electricity and goes to his earphone. His earphone kind of flashing because of that but he said he is okay. After that he just told chat he got struck, he is okay, and want to end stream as soon as possible.

16:47 has got to be an early observation of the circadian rhythm

7:40 Jesus Christ Mip is a rebel....

Scuff intro by mipyun is always best lmao,  Also when she was explaining the don't step on the cracks thing as kids I use to do that a lot when I was younger cause of the saying step on a crack break your mamma's back  but i'd always pretend the floor was lava when i was a kid. But good video mipyun. :D

The way I always heard it was the other way around ("boys go to Jupiter to get stupider")
