my drill instructor in bootcamp told us to ALWAYS speak Carlos Hathcock's name in reverence. Carlos was and still is a legend to this day.

In 1996, I was stationed at the Branch Medical Clinic on Parris Island. On day the Command Master Chief was making rounds& informed everyone that a VIP would be coming through. This visitor would be accorded the utmost respect. The VIP? White Feather himself. He personally shook the hands of every single Corpsman on duty. He used a walker. MS was taking his body but his eyes were bright & his mind was razor sharp. He was escorted by several Senior Drill Instructors who were in as much awe as the rest of the staff. That was the coolest meeting I had in my time on the Island

Squirrel taste “gamey”. Dark, flavorful meat that is amazing in a stew or brown gravy. My dad cooks it in a cast iron pot for hours till it falls off the bone

The worst part about an effective head shot isn't being the person it happens to, as your problems are over. The worst is being the person who has to clean it up.

Something that people are really missing here. I do competetive precision long range shooting out to 1000 yards. We use 24x magnification scopes. Hathcock was shooting consistently with a rifle no where near the accuracy we are shooting today with a 3x magnification scope while also in combat. This man is a fucking legend!

I think my life goal has become to drink a beer with Nick. The best story teller ever. Thank you Boomy.

Nic takes whatever he can and then figures out what he can do with it that will be interesting. If I remember right, the video on the 77th division was started several years ago when he talked to a veteran with the patch on his hat. He'd never heard of them, but knew of Desmond Doss, and it spiraled into an internet hole of research. Which then spiraled into several other lines of research as well, like the all-Japanese division in Europe.

@1o-0:56 I was told "Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect." Life lesson

I was lucky enough to meet Carlos in the late 80's, '89 to be specific. I treasure that introduction to this day. Oddly enough I was left with the impression he was a kind man. Semper Fi my brother and R.I.P.

The shot against Apache was even better because he likely had adrenaline being dumped into his system like crazy. You would have to keep the nerves from being tense and shaky. Add anger and maybe fatigue and it’s remarkable he made the shot.

5:57 I knew in middle school that I was going to join the Marines.

Every time I hear a story about a Marine doing something badass or selfless, I always think of one quote.

"Uncommon valor was a common virtue" - Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz
He said that as a description of the Marines who fought during The Battle of Iwo Jima during the war in The Pacific.

1:16:35 The Art of War says to anger/frustrate your enemy...Sun Tzu also never saw a furious man solve a problem with artillery & napalm

I've seen this video before. But, I just now realized that when he called them "Homer Hamburger". He was probably doing that to disassociate from having to delete them by using "distancing language".
Which would make sense for genuinely good man. Who doesn't want to do it. But knows that he's the right guy for the job. And that anything you do to bring about peace makes you a peacemaker.
Great reaction, as usual.

The very first book I ever read was Carlos Hathcock’s book that was given to me by my grandfather.

Grandpa was in the Navy during World War 2 and fought in the Pacific. He grew up near where Carlos was from and a lot like Carlos was raised. He heard the stories of what Carlos did after the Vietnam War was over and read his biography after it came out. He decided those lessons needed to be taught to every male descendant he had so he bought a copy of the book for his son’s, grandsons, and great-grandsons then made all of us agree to buy a copy for our sons that came after he died.

The movie that inspired me to join the Marine Corps was Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood, and Carlos Hathcock is every Marines idol.

Carlos Hathcock is thee truest American Hero.. not just for his precision shots and what he did for our country but also for his spirit and personality! He has an attitude that since I was in high school always deeply admired and appreciated! Hearing of him very young was when I realized the utmost respect must be given to all our veterans! Thank you for this reaction Boomy.. you have Amazing content!
