Theme parks can keep old railroad crossings alive. Six Flags is a huge example. They use vintage railroad crossing signals and bells on their railroads.
I heard from a local crossing signal collector that a majority of these oldschool signals and bells came from Katy TX and are MKT era, it's awesome these relics are preserved here at the park! Especially all those Teardrop bells and that Wig Wag! Nice video!
Don't know what it is, but Wig Wags is my favorite old school crossing signal. This size of the engine is adorable, especially with the big sounding whistle and bell, then this little thing comes chuging along. Big enough to be functional, small enough to make you think if that could fit in your back yard.
And meanwhile Six Flags over Georgia has two teenagers and some plastic chains. And once the chains are up one of them walks over to the control "gazebo" and turns on the signals manually with a specialized rotary switch designed to not break their 4-inch long press-on nails.
I absolutely love running that Porter locomotive. It's a little tight in the cab..... but it's a joy to pull that throttle. Of the two we have, Patton's stack talk is the best.
