Spectacular Flinders Ranges views, outback station camping and a lost township with a family connection! Join us at Edeowie Station on our Australian caravan road trip through South Australia.
Leaving Cradock, we stop in Hawker for fuel and lunch at Flinders Food Co before following the Outback Highway towards Edeowie Station, on the western side of Wilpena Pound.
We settle into a powered campsite with our Legend Trackline caravan and Ford Everest, explore the historic station buildings and shearing shed, and visit the cemetery, where Christine finds a memorial connected to her father’s family.
The next morning, we head out on an eight-kilometre return walk to the old Edeowie township ruins. Christine’s ancestor Simon Cox ran the general store here, making this much more than an ordinary sightseeing stop.
There’s also beautiful drone footage of the Flinders Ranges, sunset views, toasted marshmallows and no-knead bread cooked over campfire coals—delicious with butter and strawberry jam!
If you’re planning a Flinders Ranges caravan holiday, researching South Australian station stays, or dreaming of an Australian outback road trip, come along for a look at our experience.
Edeowie offers powered caravan sites and unpowered bush camping options, plus access to Edeowie Gorge and Bunyeroo Gorge. We stayed on a powered site; our visit shows both the comforts of station camping and the adventure of exploring beyond camp.
