I'm waiting for Wizards to create a feat where you can sacrifice your own hit POINTS to do more damage. Then Colby can kill his character every battle in the name of damage above all else.😂

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Btw in 5.5 if a subclass gives a spell it becomes the main class spell. So that extra cantrips that you gain from Arcane cleric do count as cleric spells.
"If another Cleric feature gives you spells that you always have prepared, those spells don’t count against the number of spells you can prepare with this feature, but those spells otherwise count as Cleric spells for you." This is the exact wording.

All casters and half casters have this in their spellcasting feature text.

Also also in Sage advice its says "those spells aren’t Sorcerer spells unless a feature says otherwise." at the end of the rule. Still holds up the spell inheritance.

Time to see Evocation Adept, the most "balanced" feat in the game, in action!

I just found this channel after getting invited to play in a game after not having played since 3.5 and I have been watching hours a day for a week now haha. Great channel.

Naming my next character Antioch. My table will not get the reference and won't know what's coming haha

Where is Treantmonk? Many of us are worried, if you now anything please tell.

Heading straight to Antioch!

Colby, I would like to see what you can do with a warlock, taking advantage of the lessons of the old ones. You could have 5 origin feats by second level. Seems like there could be a real cool build in there somewhere. Considering the new origin feats in the last couple of books.

I was fully expecting Tempest Cleric with that Sorcerer multiclass. Those transmuted 8*6+2*8 = 64 damage fireballs (thunderballs?) would be epic!

16:22 Reaper won't work with Inflict Wounds anymore, since Inflict Wounds is just a Con save now instead of a spell attack roll. That was the other part of the nerf, in addition to the damage decrease.

play this like baby Yoda being a sweet and innocent gobbo till combat starts, then raining destruction down

I'm gonna pick Evocation Adept as my Level 8 feat on my Vengeance Pally. Guess what is an Evocation spell that deals damage, and thus can be empowered with your d10 Hit Dice? Divine Smite. You could already do this with Spellfire Adept, but being a Pally and tossing around Fireballs if needed just feels so awesome. Especially if you can empower them so that they can deal more damage than upcasts at 5th level - that's what full casters might be doing at level 9, when you get Fireball.

Pallys, especially Vengeance, can get so insanely complete with this new Feat. Great AC? Haste, Heavy Armor, Defense FS, Magic Initate for the Shield spell if you want. Great Saves? You get your Aura and Bless if you need  it. Great Mobility? Haste, Find Steed, maybe pick a race with flight. Great Single Target DPS? Great Weapon Master, Haste, Empowered Divine Smites, Vow of Emity. And with Evocation Adept, you can now dabble in Blasting too, heck, even Wall of Force at higher levels. It's crazy

Let my Tuesday ASMR drive home from work begin...

I actually considered something similar recently with Lunar Sorceror/(Undetermined) Cleric w/ Spellfire Spark origin feat.  Sacred Flame as a bonus action and a regular action, each hitting two adjacent creatures, and counting as both a sorceror and cleric cantrip (so +wis mod damage, +1 dc from innate sorcery).  And that's just the cantrip fun-and-games...

You could also go with Tempest Cleric and take an extra Sorcerer lvl before lvl 6 (Sorcerer 2, Tempest Cleric 4). Then pick up Transmuted Spell Metamagic to turn the fire damage from Fireball to thunder, or lightning. After that you can use Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath, to max all thunder/lightning damage rolls for:

8d6 (Maxed for 48) + 2d8 (From Evocation Adept, Maxed for 16) + 3 (Arcane Overload) = 67 Thunder/Lightning damage (half on a save) to all creatures within a 20ft radius sphere of your choice.

If you take goblin it's an extra 3 damage to one creature of your choice. ofc if you take this route you would need to add the extra damage from Spellfire Adept to Spirit Guardians later on since Astral Flood won't work. However with Metamagic this early you could throw out a Quickened Toll of the Dead. If you have Spirit Guardians up before combat, your first round of damage (assuming a 50% save chance and 3 targets) would look like:

Spirit Guardians +30 (10 per target)
Fireball + Transmuted Spell + Channel Divinity + Arcane Overload +150 (50 per target)
Toll of the Dead +6 (single target)
Fury of the Small +3 (single target)
Total Damage: 189 Damage, Single Target: 69 Damage

Over a 3 round combat where you cast Spirit Guardians and Toll of the Dead round 1, Nova Fireball(Fireball + Transmute + Channel Div) + Arcane Overload round 2, and Nova Fireball round 3. This comes out to 133 Avg Damage over 3 rounds.

In a 2 round combat however you can cast, Nova Fireball + Arcane Overload + Toll of the Dead round 1, and Nova Fireball round 2. For 153 Avg Damage over 2 rounds.

If my math is right this might be stronger at lvl 6, but likely won't scale as well into later lvls. In the damage report I assumed you wouldn't throw out a Quickened Spell every round, but if you did it would boost the Avg Damage by a bit (+4 Avg Damage over 3 rounds and +3 Average Damage over 2 rounds).

Did my man just whip out Spamalot?!?! You don't play fair, Colby. Did that show in high school. So good.

*If allowed*
The "Zeal"-domain from Planeshift: Amonkhet would probably be also a pretty nice choice.
But it is an old subclass (2017) and maybe setting-specific.
But they get maxed damage for thunder/fire-spells for their channel divinity-uses (like the Tempest Cleric)

And they get Shatter, Fireball, Haste and Flamestrike among others onto their Spelllist :D

Hey Colby, hows Chris? Worried for our fellow other master optimizer

Another great build as usual would love to see your thoughts on the best way to build with the conjuration wizard from the new book
