Rock meets opera in the most unexpected and legendary way! 🎤🎶 Today I’m reacting for the very first time to Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé’s masterpiece “Barcelona” – a jaw-dropping fusion of Queen’s iconic frontman and one of the greatest opera voices of all time.

This isn’t just a song, it’s history. Freddie dreamed of combining rock and opera, and with Montserrat Caballé, he created something truly timeless. From the powerful vocals to the grand orchestration, this performance shows why Freddie Mercury was a once-in-a-lifetime artist.

👉 Watch along as I dive into the emotion, drama, and sheer brilliance of Barcelona!

Montserrat sings in Spanish (she is a Spanish opera soprano). Freddie loved opera and said in a Spanish interview that Montserrat was his favourite singer. When Montserrat heard about it he wanted to meet Freddie (they met in Barcelona), a friendship began and they made a record together. In fact Montserrat had been asked to perform at the '92 Olympics and he asked Freddie to collaborate, they were supposed to perform "Barcelona" together at the Olympics, but because they both knew Freddie wouldn't live to see it, they made a video that was shown at the Olympics.
(The song was chosen as the official anthem for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.)

These performances with Monserrat in 1987, were the last times that Freddie ever performed live on stage …..before he passed away in 1991. Queen has a huge catalog of 200 recorded songs, plus solo albums…from 1971 until 1991. Live performances are usually better than the album releases….. please react to “Somebody to Love “ live in Montreal 1981. Thank you.

I'm binging Freddie/ Montsy reactions. I love her. Freddie is fantastic, as always. But Montserrat... she is brilliant and steals the show. Her voice, the happyness she shows, their love. It's a match made in heaven. Lol I'm not religious, but these two fantastic artists are sacred to me. It's brilliance like this that gives life meaning.

Here are all 3 of their performance videos in one swoop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9wKDa1udt0 The line here "God willing we will meet again some day" I like to think happened Oct. 6, 2018 when Freddie's "Montsy" died at age 85 carrying him in her heart all her years.

You may enjoy other songs from this Album. There are 10 all together. 'How can I Go On' and 'The Golden Boy'. are 2 of my favourites from this Album. There are many many Queen Songs, especially the live ones. You might like to start with Somebody to Love from Rock Montreal 1981. Freddie in his Prime!

Queen has a song for everyone, whether you like hard rock, prog rock, pop, country, jazz, blues... they've done one... for a couple of real bangers check out Headlong and Dragon Attack. For a moving ballad check out Love of My Life.
