Sophia is no longer the best place to go for general education courses. In this video, I explain why Study.com's new College Starter plan has taken first place.

Disclaimer: While this video is not an ad for Study.com and I stand by everything I said, I do have a partnership with Study.com whereby which I benefit financially when people use my link to sign up. I hope that my long history of recommending Sophia (while that partnership with Study.com was in place) when I thought it was the best option for my clients and viewers reassures you that my opinions in this video are come by honestly.

I just finished all of my pre-req’s on Sophia and I much prefer its user friendliness.

Btw, the beard is looking righteous Spencer 👌

Just started doing exactly this - Attempting to knock out the low-level/general courses on the Starter plan and will upgrade to Saver once I absolutely have to, to move forwards.

Only issue is if you’re already signed up for the original college saver plan they won’t let you switch. You’ll had to start a whole new account 😢

So I did Sophia for my bachelor’s degree and you can also take 3 classes. If you are waiting for touchstones to be graded for your other 2 courses and email them they’ll open a 3rd course for you

How can I view a list of the $95 vs $235 courses available, particularly if I know which courses I need to cover for specific UMPI degrees? Like if theres a specific 200/300/400 level course I know I need

I was going to do both im debating between wgu and macu but macu only accepts Sophie and wgu accepts both

In the homeschool mode (not sure what it is actually called), which was about $60 a month, our daughter had access to all the college courses. When she was ready to take her proctored exams, we switched over, then switched back when she was done. She was in high school and this was part of her curriculum, so it didn’t make sense to pay more per month for things she was taking months to finish.
Do they not still offer a homeschool price and access to all the courses this way?
It was really smart of them to ditch the proctored exams!

If you get a "hacked" bachelor's at UMPI (w/3rd party creds), for example, do online Master's programs (e.g. PurdueG, WGU) tend to accept those degrees in full? Im sure its case by case, but id hate to go get a whole Bachelor's and then not be able to move forward because of those credits or the school id chosen.

I know I can hack all of these courses but I struggle with math. Thats why I don’t have a degree as of yet. Any advice on math?

Currently knocking out Sophia classes (Gen Ed) with the intention of taking 90 credits to UMPI Lib Studies program (I know, I know...I just need "a" degree). Any advice/feedback on this route would be appreciated (note I'm just starting in Oct. 2025 - plan to finish 90 creds by Christmas)
