Between approx 1975-85 the way Amitabh projected and channeled the Angry Young Man persona, especially in the late 70s, remains unmatched before or since. Yes, for sure there were very creative directors, writers, music directors etc etc who MUST be given credit for that whole edifice and for creating the winning formula but ….. the grippingly unique way Bachchan breathed life into it and the emotional force field he created enacting this role and persona is something not just his fans but generations of Indians and cinema lovers will NEVER forget ….

And it’s not just about his histrionic abilities and fine acting talents but also how he stunningly “weaponized” all aspects of his physical persona which was in many ways uniquely different from his “standard handsome” peer stars at that time. And this was such a stunning performance in movie after movie after movie in that period that not only does it emotionally grip and stun audiences to this day, but it has become such a high bar in the cinematic portrayal of the Angry Young Man that multiple generations of stars since then have not been able to even come close to, in any shape or form …

(and talking about his peers/competitors at that time, only Rishi Kapoor, and to a smaller extent Amol Palekar in a narrow niche, who were able to stand on their own commanding a clear demographically different fan-base. Everyone else - especially Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Jitendra, Shatrughan and Vinod Khanna, were slowly but surely relegated to 2nd place. And in Jitendra’s case were it not for the storm that was Sridevi in the mid-80s that gave him a 2nd life, his career like Rajesh Khanna’s was over!!
Shashi Kapoor another top-tier star name from that era - and the only one who was arguably successful on multiple fronts - Art, Commercial, International, dramas and plays, in short the Navratilova of Indian cinema at that time - even his biggest Hindi movie hits almost 10 in number were all in buddy roles with Amitabh !!! …..and after they stopped working together in mid-80s you don’t hear much of Shashi anymore ……..all due respect to him……)

10:52 goosebumps 😢

I am in tears watching this scene and realise how lucky and fortunate I am to be living my life in England. The boy stole which I don't condone, but looking beyond that, he come from a poor family and upbringing and you have to have empathy.

Deewar somehow was a and is a good movie and still relevant to this date.

Great dialogues by Salim-Javed.

Amitabh Bachchan ke stardum bada dey thy iss scene ne

माँ सिर्फ छोटे की चाहत है, यह व्यावहारिक है

People would say Amitabh and Shashi said powerful dialogue in this scene, but me personally found Nirupa Roy's intensive, strong and yet emotional dialogue, confronting her own son that "even if somebody else wrote in your hand that your father is a thief, but you wrote the same in my head that her own son is a thief".. best surreal and powerful statement ever 🙏🙏

Brilliant Nirupa Roy
