Mick Duxbury tells the full story of a football career that goes far beyond the highlights.

In this episode, Mick opens up on:

Breaking into Manchester United in the 1980s
Playing 60 games in a single season
Winning FA Cups… but not always feeling fulfilled
Why he struggled at international level with England
Life under Ron Atkinson and Alex Ferguson
The reality of football’s drinking culture
Moving abroad to Hong Kong
Facing the end of his career
And starting again — including working as a milkman before becoming a teacher.

This is a raw and honest look at what a football career really looks like — on and off the pitch.

This is brilliant. Remember Duxbury as being very underrated and also very versatile. And seems a lovely lad too. Liked the United team of that era, Bailey, Whiteside, McGrath, Robbo. The list is endless.

A very good right back for Man U & England back in the day. In the ‘85 cup final he came on for Arthur Albiston late in the game before that wonderful curler from big Norm.

Mick was a born survivor.

He joined the club under Tommy Doc in the 1970s.

Made his debut under Dave Sexton in the 1980s.

Won 2 FA Cups under Big Ron.

Finished 2nd in the league under Fergie.

I'm a Liverpool fan who saw a bit of Duxbury in Liverpool v Man U games and he was a very steady and consistent performer who never got the credit he deserved. He seems a really decent fella too who enjoyed his career and made good decisions in retirement for himself and his family. good luck to him. He's right about Dennis Irwin too. he was a great player for United and his other clubs.
