Guys thank you for watching. The environment design course is currently closed but we are scheduling 1:1 mentorships for this summer, link above to apply.

You've helped me realize that I've fallen into most of these traps, and do expect to be able to produce work that peaks all three corners simultaneously. I will now no longer expect that of myself and feel like I have permission to enjoy my craft again.

Frustration at every stage and an endless search for the right information just to finish some small detail. In the end, not a single project was completed.))

I've never seen anyone debunk it this way before, thank you so much Tyler! I've been loving the editing too lately. I've been watching you since forever and i think the videos you produce is very educational. Thanks for this!

I have the feeling that video will be very important for my growth. I'm often confused about my workflow and don't understand why projects are enjoyable and others are not.
Thank you for sharing this !

Great video, the pyramid you laid down is some insane wisdom, I guess it depends on the level you’re at but it’s all about balancing the tolerance of each approach, cause like you said one can lead to perfectionism, the other to conformity, etc

I think the tricky part is that these are all positive values to pursue, which makes the decision process that much harder. It’s just as you say… knowing what a piece is supposed to be function-wise before it’s all said and done is extremely important. This is one of those timeless videos that I’ll have to revisit again and again as these forces are always at play. Thanks a lot!

This video came out at the right time. It has been a while I've been through this inner fight on workflows, especially because I've stared exploring and switching to one to another after going through illustration and concept art formation period. This surely helped reframing how I should approach them

I guess instead of bad process we don't even have one lol

I needed this reframing so much 😭 thank you! This feel like its exactly what i have been stuck on for a while, criticising myself for missing any one of these 3 parts on just about every project i work on. This should help reframe my expectations and goals so much better now.

Thank you for this, I've actually been thinking about my mindset when it comes to art, and how I'm supposed to organize and solve all of these things that are making me burn out on my art journey for a long time now.

Genuinely a helpful video that reframed lots of things that needed to be solved, thank you.

Whoa that is actually super helpful! I think I kinda do this subconsciously but having it clearly layed out takes out a lot of uncertainty!

Enjoyable and high quality is my fav too.
I defiantly struggle everything you said with that pairing, always getting stuck on a painting because something looks off.
not knowing why that looks off, (I'm actually getting through that right now and tbh I'm getting really frustrated with it)  sometimes it's easy to
just get past that phase of struggle but, other times its not, and I don't really finish the painting.

Thanks for the video, I'll probably be going back to this video again and again to remind myself the intention of my paintings.
Now I gotta finish this painting I'm fighting with.

😭Thamk you for your wisdom.

I know this video is focused on workflow in visual art, but since I'm currently writing a novel, I can't help but see some parallels. Now, a novel is a huge project that can take years, and I'm still trying to figure out my workflow for it. Looking back, I have indeed been trying to have speed, enjoyment, and quality all at once. And I've definitely experienced the difference when I just prioritize two. Something I've been seeing more and more people do is have different priorities for each draft. They say to aim for speed and creative enjoyment in first drafts, then switch to production mode (speed and quality). But I'm finding that if I sacrifice quality at any stage in the process, I can never get that polish back. You can only polish a turd so much; people will always be able to tell it's a turd. The few times I've tried it, I've had to discard everything I wrote in that mode. I've tried being in production mode as well, but I get burnout very quickly and it lasts a long time for me. Last time I tried it, I managed to spend a month in production mode, but then I had a sort of crash and wasn't about to write for three months afterward. The burnout lasted so long, I've realized I would have made more progress if I'd gone slower! Thus, I'm currently working in portfolio mode, focusing on creative enjoyment and quality. But I'm also getting bit in the butt by perfectionism. I'm now five years into writing this novel, and I still haven't reached the end of the story in any draft before starting a new draft. I swear, there's no way to win!

This came at the perfect time. Thanks for posting this.

So in time! Incredible as always! Thanks for sharing such a meaningful thoughts! So the key is to fell in love with each of the processes)

I'm literally at this stage right now, thank you very much!

10/11 video!  Very insightful.

Very good video and insight! It made me realise how I work and where I misstep. I don’t always start with the right approach depending on my intention with a piece and I didn’t realise it. It will need working out! Thank you very much good sir :)
