I never had a SAAB plane... but I had several SAAB automobiles - while they made cars.Very sad they stopped producing cars.
However with war planes stable trust is critical. Having so expensive and important planes that could be stopped from the USA because the unstable president would want to deny  maintenance or  is simply make them electronically grounded them would be a serious mistake, not to mention the cost! Now, Canada also has access to all the characteristics of the Grippen planes, but also the ability not only to maintain them, but as well to manufacture them. TOTAL SECURITY AND TRUST! 👍👍👍

The F35 isn't the jet for Canada. Hell, the USA has barely more than 50% of their own F35 fleet mission capable, and most of them aren't in the Arctic which matters because the cold of the north wears out the stealth coating which is the whole point of the F35 plus the cost is extremely high for the F35 but not just to buy then but just flying them is extremely expensive and let not forget the USA need to approve any work and upgrades done to the F35 and if they wanted they could they could say they had a new software upgrade that could completely makes the F35 no more than a paper weight. That risk is something no country should accept. The Gripen is the perfect jet for Canada right now, plus Saab is also supposed to be working a 6th gen jet that Canada might be able to help develop with Saab that could become out next fighter jet for Canada when the Gripen's service life comes to an end. The Gripen was designed for a environment just like Canada. It seems to me that the Gripen for Canada is a no brainer its far cheaper buy, operate, and maintain and it would be completely ours to maintain and develop upgrades for as we see fit also the Gripen doesn't need to build specialized hangers and long runways

The Gripen is better than the F-35 because with the Gripen, you can do whatever you want with the product you buy, for example, add something if you think it's important. Meanwhile, with American aircraft, you can't do anything and have to ask for permission, which is illogical and costly, especially during warranty repairs.

What do you mean "the product isn't bad" the product isn't trust worthy.  50% downtime, cost per hour to operate, does not handle cold weather well, parts cost and system software updates are held hostage by the US.
