"Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money."   - A wise Native American.

Mining companies eventually leave and in their oath are the problems they leave behind. The miners are left behind and all that is left are the healthcare facilities to take care of them. It’s never a good idea to base economic development on one company. When the miners closes, any companies dependent on the income from the miners will also disappear. We see this with prisons and coal mines when they close. Not worth it when clean water is going to be an even more precious resource as time goes on.

Twin Metals Minnesota, which proposes a copper-nickel mine near Ely, is a subsidiary of Antofagasta PLC, a major Chilean mining corporation. Antofagasta acquired full ownership of the project in 2015 after buying out its partner, Duluth Metals. The project is controlled by the Luksic family, who own Antofagasta

I am very glad you covered this. Mining near the BWCA and polluting it for a foreign company would be a TRAGEDY! The BWCA is Minnesota’s crown jewel. There is no place like it in the lower 48.

Save the MN Boundary Waters!

Twin Metals has a rotten environmental record.  They poisoned an entire river in Montana; nothing grows in or along the river.   For more than a century, corporations have sought to exploit & destroy the BWCA.  In 1977, with the proposed federal wilderness designation, Ely wilderness writer & defender of the BWCAW, Sigurd Olson & a Minnesota Congressman were hanged in effigy in Ely.  1977 was my first of 3 trips into the Boundary Waters, when I interviewed Olson.  The next time we visited, it was the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  Each time, we stayed longer.  Our federal government is currently controlled by destroyers & grifters, who don't care about anything but making money.  Intangible values mean nothing to them.  The BWCAW is priceless.

How about having the tailings shipped to Chile. If there's no threat to the environment they shouldn't have any problem bringing the tailings to their own country.

The statement in your report I disagree with is that this is a decision of the people of MN! It is not. The people of the USA own federal land and we all have a stake in what happens with it. last I checked the BWCAW was part of Superior National Forest, and federal land.  Water knows no boundary --- like a state line --- and clean water should belong to every person in our country, along with the air. I am a past President of the Izaak Walton League of America, and we worked very had to establish the BWCA when it was established, along with the Upper Mississippi River national wildlife refuge.

If youre thinking "they could have no issues with spills", look into the history of sulfude mines and find just one that HASN'T. It does not exist.

So a foreign company with multiple violations wants to mine minerals here and ship them overseas.  We get money and poised water.  Greed is a disgusting thing.  Excel energy dumped 200 barrels of oil into the mississippi about a month ago.  How's that going...

Every one of these modern copper mines has claimed it won't pollute this time. And every one of them has polluted massively.

When are we going to stop falling for this.

Thank you Minnesota bound for doing such a good job covering this subject. Keep twin metals out of the boundary waters.

I, like probably every other person who watches this video, is against the prospect of copper and any other metals/minerals from being mined adjacent to the Boundary Waters Wilderness area.  The mining will surely pollute and destroy the natural environment of the area just as it does and has in every other place where the mining occurs,  especially copper mining.   Of course,  all of us use a ton of products on a daily basis which contain copper and all these other metals/minerals.  Our cars, our houses, our electronics and so much more.   There exists a hypocrisy for most of  us, definitely including myself,  which is really difficult and likely impossible to completely avoid.   If the mining won't occur here, it will surely occur in some other place in our world.   And that other place will surely be environmently destroyed.

There is literally a Birch Lake Campground within hearing distance of this shit. A long with all the resorts. Minnesota doesn't want this!

Its not worth the risks

Most of this is old footage from years ago, regurgitated now because of the passage of HJR140 reversing the ban on exploring and mining on 225,000 acres in the Superior National Forest.

🌎 Earth Day  2026   BWCA Wilderness  protection and conservation efforts are vital !!  🛶🌲💧🐝🦋🐾🌞

This is our Yellowstone! “Some places are just not worth the risk and this is one of them” I don’t understand how this flies over some people’s heads!

Us Minnesotans must protect the bwca!! It's so important to our story! Find out who us getting paid off and let's vote them out!

The Boundary Waters are one of the most pristine places on this continent. This mining operation will not be allowed to happen. especially for a measly little 700 jobs lol.
