We love HAL! I prefer the smaller ships, myself, but to each their own. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for your video.

On cruises to Hawaii, Holland brings on a team of cultural ambassadors. They teach classes such as hula, Hawaiian language and ukulele, do performances, and offer some craft classes, as well.

The unlimited laundry is definitely the way to go. We often have a few days worth of dirty laundry by the time we board, and we put that in the first night. I always ask the cabin attendant when the last time to put in laundry before disembarkation is then request it be returned folded. It makes packing that much easier.

One other suggestion I would add is to check out the on-board libraries. We often take longer cruises with a number of sea days, and having access to a good variety of books is nice.

I've been on HAL and can say these are very useful, observant and intelligent tips! Plus, ❤ your accent!

Local entertainment occurred on our New England - Canada cruise. Celtic band. Very high energy and fun.

Viking books pre- and post-excursion accommodations with hosts and transfer services. I really liked that.

I took a 17 day cruise to Hawaii on HAL and bought the Unlimited laundry package. It set me back 170 bucks. Any way you slice it, that's a LOT to pay for laundry service, but the inescapable fact is that laundry is going to be wildly expensive on a cruise ship compared to the neighborhood laundromat. While the unlimited package is pretty steep, it actually turns out to be better than the "by the bag" or "by the item" options.

And one other thing HAL cruisers should know. The laundry bags they supply are TINY! Three shirts and three pairs of pants pretty much fill one up. Between the two of us, my wife and I must have sent out ten bags of laundry, so the unlimited package turned out to be the best value. Turnaround time is pretty good. Once I set a bag out in the hall shortly after midnight and got it back later that same afternoon. The rest of the time, we got our laundry back the next day. Also, you get your choice of getting your laundry back folded or on hangers.

I have a 16 day cruise booked for late next year and I intend to buy the unlimited package again, because I don't particularly want to pack 16 days worth of clothes.

As for local music, we did a Baltic cruise in May, 2025 on the Rotterdam, and at one of our ports in Germany, they had a local polka band come on board for the German fest. It was delightful! And full of local flavor!

Last thing I want is to hook into is anybody's app or wifi. Silence is golden. Chuck the cell overboard ok with me.

HAL has regional entertainment in the North-East (Boston to/from Quebec). Breton Thunder seems to be enjoyed by most who see their show. very Maritime :)

Sailed HAL around South America a few years ago. (74 days) They brought on troupes of at least 10 different styles of dancers - Native, traditional, salsa, tango etc. They had local music groups of different styles at many of the ports. From Bossa Nova to classical guitar, jazz to opera, samba, etc.
Never expected jazz band 500 miles up the Amazon in Manaus to "bring the house down' or the Boi-boi festival in Sao Luis to be as entertaining.
We cruise frequently on HAL because we've found that it a problem occurs they work to fix it. Have been on lines where problems became 'our fault' and told by one that 'there are many cruisers out there we don't have to address issues'.

We were recently on the Oosterdam for a cruise through the Panama Canal to Santiago Chile. We had a traditional dance group while overnighting in Lima Peru.

Very thorough information, nicely presented and very enjoyable. We haven’t cruised on this line and are looking at it. You have certainly helped with this. Thanks very much!

You can save money on wine packages while you are on board depending on your mariner status . Also many times what is offer ( wine selection) is not what actually is available since it depends from where you are sailing .

Excellent heads up re accommodation. I usually avoid agents like the plague as we do most things off script & thrifty. But I'll check HAL's options. THX!
