Princess Alice deserves much more recognition & admiration than she's received.

I cant imagine living the life she had - whether or not a Royal family member, but lived to be 97 years old & the time of that 97yr, the world went through so many major changes, its incredible to think of all she witnessed firsthand.

Queen Wilhelmina wasn‘t a relative of her father‘s side. Queen Wilhelmina‘s mother was a sister of her mother.

Being Irish in the U.K. myself, the title Countess of Athlone got my attention, as I’ve visited the town of Athlone in Co Westmeath on many occasions (the train station is across the River Shannon, located in Co. Roscommon in the West of Ireland) - I’ve always liked to hear about these Irish titles, as many Irish peers got to sit in the House of Lords in London long after the creation of the Irish Free State after 1921 and I’ve since found many Irish connections to British royal history - Princess Diana’s Grandmother was Lady Fermoy and the Spencer family still have many Irish connections too 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪🥰🥰🥰

Wow talk about being interwoven. I can't even keep up with it all.

She was never Vicereine; this title is reserved for the wife of a Viceroy.  A wife of a Governor General is entitled to the style of Her Excellency.  Of course a style of Her Royal Highness trumps that!

You make great videos ❤

The Netherlands Queen was a cousin on her mother's side so report misleading. Doubt her 40 first cousin's were on her father's side only.

Her mother who had been born Princess Helena of Waldeck-Pyrmont (1861-1922) was a rather remarkable individual who was so intelligent that her father George Victor, the ruling Prince of Waldeck-Pyrmont appointed her the head of children's education for their principality. Anyway, he had been initially hesitant for her to marry Prince Leopold due to his hemophilia but agreed to allow her to marry Vic's youngest son because he believed that it would be better for his daughter to have a happy brief marriage than a miserable long one. She would wed Leopold who Vic made the Duke of Albany when she was 21 then to the surprise of Vic would bear Princess Alice [who was named for Vic's favorite deceased daughter Alice, the Grand Duchess of Hesse] in 1883 at age 22. Leopold would die in early 1884 when she was four month's pregnant with their 2nd child who proved to be Charles Edward, who made was the 2nd of Duke of Albany at his birth.  Helena would be widowed with two children when she was only 23 but never considered remarrying. Instead she not only dedicated herself to raising her fatherless children but was very active in charitable works including being the founder of the Deptford Fund. She would raise Alice and Charles who'd be known as 'the Siamese twins' due to them doing everything together at a young age. Of course, when Vic decreed that Charles would need to become the new Duke of Saxe-Coburg Gotha [ her beloved Al's homeland], the little family had no choice but to send Charles to Germany to be trained by (of all people) his cousin the Kaiser Wilhelm II. Alas, he wound up becoming rather fanatic in his devotion to the Kaiser and almost as soon as the First World War was declared, it seems Charles Edward [now Karl Eduard] sent all his British medals BACK to his cousin George V who would wind up stripping Charles of his British citizenship and forbade his being able to travel back to Great Britain. Ironically, Helena, the German-born Dowager Duchess of Albany STAYED a British subject to the end due to being the widowed daughter-in-law of Vic. In 1922, Helena decided to try to comfort her stranded son and his newer family by visiting Coburg. The visit itself went fine but then when she went to stay in an Austrian resort, Helena suddenly died at age 61. This greatly shocked both Alice & Charles and may have wound up unhinging Charles altogether for  just a month after Helena's death Charles became acquainted and befriended none other than Hitler himself and would become an early and ardent NAZI.

Wow it's a lot to try to keep up with all the relations. Just like other people on here I also had this confused with Prince Philip's mother. It doesn't help when people put their content up and show a mix of pictures. Like the picture of Philip's mother and princess Anne. You got to be careful with these YouTube channels I have googled a lot of things to find out what's true and not and they're not always accurate.

I do enjoy your well-researched and lovely spoken video. Thank you so very much.

Did I get this mixed up I thought this was Prince Philip's mother. This person encouraged the confusion by showing pictures of Prince Philip's mom.

😮Something to think about people-Haemophilia was unheard of before Victoria and Albert's children,on either side despite the inbreeding.
It has been suggested that Queen Victoria's sire was actually (Sir)John Conroy, her mother's 'personal secretary' and probable lover who had a family history of Haemophilia.Sound a bit suspicious?Because it is.As history has proven time and again, royals are not holier than thou, much as they might want to appear to be.Therefore,Victoria was illegitimate and the current British royal family have no right to the throne.Useless lot of bludgers with no purpose.
